Yeah, I thought the same when considering Lambert!!G.Wood wrote:skully wrote:And how many bowlers will the Dubbers take into the game. Stack the batting and ensure a draw at least or play 5 bowlers (with 2 spinners)?
They only have 5 batsmen in their squad

I agree, the Dubbers could have gone in with one more batsman.
As it is, it looks like 4 wrist spinners will play the match - Tiger will be smiling down from heaven.

CA Awards in Sydney
13/03/2008
Western Australia has taken out the Benaud Spirit of Cricket Award, while Retravision Warriors paceman Steve Magoffin and opener Chris Rogers received individual accolades at today's Cricket Australia State Cricket Awards in Sydney.
Now in their fifth year, the Spirit of Cricket awards are named in honour of the Benaud family - Lou, Richie and John - for their collective contributions to Sydney, New South Wales and Australian cricket.
A perpetual trophy – which is housed at Cricket Australia's Melbourne headquarters – is engraved annually with the names of the winning men's and women's senior interstate teams.
Each winning team receives an individual trophy and the captains of the winning sides receive an individual medal of the same design.
Retravision Warriors Captain Marcus North says although the team was unable to play in the Pura Cup or Ford Ranger Cup final this season, the Benaud Spirit of Cricket Award shows they are moving in the right direction.
“We speak often about what Tom Moody and Trevor Penney have brought to the team since they arrived last year, and winning this award is recognition of the culture that exists among the playing group this season,” North said.
“We may not be playing in finals, but we ended this season in far better shape than where we were at 12 months ago, and it will only improve again next summer.”
Retravision Warriors paceman Steve Magoffin's outstanding 2007-08 season was rewarded with selection in the Johnnie Walker ACA Pura Cup Team of the Year as well as the Johnnie Walker ACA Ford Ranger Cup Team of the Year.
Magoffin snared 35 wickets in the Pura Cup at an average of 25.48, and was the Warriors' leading wicket-taker in the Ford Ranger Cup with 14 at 27.21.
Magoffin was one of five players selected for both teams, joining Simon Katich (NSW), Brad Hodge (Vic), David Hussey (Vic) and Daniel Marsh (Tas).
"It's a great honour, and I think the most rewarding aspect is that it's voted on by other players in the interstate competitons, so to have that bestowed on you by your peers is very satisfying," Magoffin said.
"My preparation leading into the season was good and that allowed me to start strongly. In the past couple of seasons I have begun slowly and played catch-up as the year went on, so I was pleased to start well and carry that success throughout the season.
"Now my aim is to back that up again, take more wickets for the Retravision Warriors and contribute to a successful team next summer."
Retravision Warriors opening batsman Chris Rogers was named in the Johnnie Walker ACA Pura Cup team of the year after another consistent season with the bat in which he scored 744 runs at an average of 43.76, second only to fellow opener Justin Langer (770) in the list of Warriors' run-scorers.
Retravision Warriors Manager & Head Coach Tom Moody says both Magoffin and Rogers have been rewarded for their consistency.
“Steve has received a great honour to be one of only five players picked in the Team of the Year for both Pura and Ford Ranger Cup competitions and it's testament to his versatility and the fine bowler he is,” Moody said.
“Chris has fittingly been recognised as one of the leading opening batsmen of the past season and it is a rightful place he occupies in Australia.
“It was a great day for WA cricket on top of winning the Benaud Spirit of Cricket Award, which shows Retravision Warriors players are known for their sportsmanship and play the game hard but fair on the field.”

Re: Pura Cup 2007/2008 (II)
Welcome to Warriors on Duty, where we keep you informed of the on-field deeds of your Retravision Warriors around the world. This week .. Marsh dons the orange cap and Pomersbach's average grows at the Indian Premier League, Voges steers Nottinghamshire to the quarter-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy, Josh Mangan's all-round skills come to the fore in the UK, and Mike Hussey heads to Antigua for the Second Test between Australia and the West Indies after featuring in a tough Jamaican battle. |
DAVID BANDY Haslingden Cricket Club (Lancashire League) |
Haslingden travelled to Rawtenstall last Saturday and after winning the toss and batting the home side was dismissed for 203 in the 50th over. Bandy opened the bowling and took 4-46 from 16 overs. The visitors were dismissed for 190 in reply. Bandy made 20 and added 60 for the third wicket with Oliver Rigby (86). But their efforts were in vain as Haslingden fell 14 runs short of their victory target of 204. This weekend Haslingden plays host to Ramsbottom in the second round of the Worsley Cup on Saturday, before backing up on Sunday for a league clash at home against Colne. |
MICHAEL JOHNSON Northern Cricket Club (Liverpool & Districts Cricket Competition) |
Took two catches as Northern scored a 93-run win over Maghull at home last Saturday, but his team held on grimly to a draw two days later against top-of-the-table Ormskirk. Northern currently sit 5th on the L&DCC ECB Premier League ladder but remain in striking distance of Ormskirk and second-placed Bootle. |
MIKE HUSSEY Australian Test team (VB Tour of the West Indies) |
Currently in Antigua preparing for the Second Test against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, which begins tomorrow night (Perth time). Made 56 in the first innings of last week’s First Test in Jamaica, sharing in a 137-run partnership for the third wicket with his skipper Ricky Ponting which helped Australia get back on track after slumping to 2-37. He was eventually dismissed by a superb catch from Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Fell for one in the second innings, bowled by Daren Powell, who was in the midst of a lethal spell in combination with fellow quick Fidel Edwards late on the third day, but the Aussies went on to record a 95-run victory and go one-up in the three-Test series. |
STEVE MAGOFFIN Worcestershire County Cricket Club (English county cricket) |
Magoffin helped to keep Worcestershire’s Friends Provident Trophy campaign alive when he took 3-19 from seven overs in last weekend’s match against Glamorgan. The game was reduced to 31 overs per side due to rain, and the Welsh team was restricted to 9-135 – a total Worcs passed in the 29th over and for the loss of three wickets. Needing a win against Gloucestershire in their final division match overnight to advance to the quarter finals, the game was washed out, thus eliminating the team from the competition. |
JOSH MANGAN Kimberley Institute Cricket Club (Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Premier League) |
Kimberley Institute have rocketed to third place and remained in touch with the top two after downing competition pacesetter Clifton Village by 17 runs and backing up two days later with a winning draw against Killamarsh. Mangan starred with both bat and ball against Clifton Village last Saturday, scoring a gutsy 79 – his third Premier League half-century of the season – as Kimberley Institute recovered from 5-120 to finish on 9-195 from their 50 overs. He then took 3-58 from 15 overs, including the prized scalps of Liam Andrews (59) and Scott McNeill (51), as the home side was rolled for 178 and displaced from the top of the table. In the Monday match at home against Killamarsh, Mangan made 19 as Kimberley Institute reached 7-207 from their 50 overs after being sent in to bat. Once again he delivered with the ball, claiming 3-50 from 13 overs, but the visitors hung on for a draw in ending their 50 overs on 8-143. However, the 17 points gained from the winning draw was enough to push Kimberley Institute into third on the Premier League standings. |
SHAUN MARSH Kings XI Punjab (Indian Premier League) |
Unquestionably the find of the Indian Premier League, Marsh ended the preliminary rounds of the tournament wearing the orange cap as the competition’s leading run-scorer, with 593 runs at an average of 74.12 and strike rate of 139.85. He finished 70 runs clear of Delhi’s Gautam Gambhir in second place, despite playing three less games. Marsh warmed up for the semi-finals with a breathtaking 115 from just 69 balls overnight against ladder leaders Rajasthan Royals in Mohali. His innings contained 11 fours, seven sixes, and enabled Kings XI Punjab to reach 3-221 from their 20 overs – a target that was always going to test the Royals, and they fell 41 runs short. Earlier in the week, he top-scored for the Kings XI with 60 from 46 deliveries in the win against the Deccan Chargers last Friday and 40 from 31 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders last Sunday. Kings XI Punjab meets the Chennai Super Kings in the second semi-final at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday night, with the winner to play either Rajasthan or Delhi in Sunday night’s final. |
MARCUS NORTH Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (English county cricket) |
North’s team enjoyed a vital five-wicket win over Hampshire in their Friends Provident Trophy encounter at Bristol last Sunday, and despite Monday’s game against Somerset and last night's match against Worcestershire both abandoned without a ball being bowled, Gloucestershire topped the South West Division table and earned a home quarter final against Yorkshire next Wednesday. Before then, Gloucs meet Warwickshire in a home LV County Championship match starting tomorrow. |
LUKE POMERSBACH Kings XI Punjab (Indian Premier League) |
As his Retravision Warriors team mate Shaun Marsh dominates headlines around the globe with his IPL performance, Pomersbach has been a quiet achiever in a team blessed with enormous batting depth. Pomersbach made 13 from 12 balls against Deccan Chargers last Friday, helping to steer Kings XI Punjab home in their pursuit of 176 for victory, and overnight he came in with just three balls remaining in the team’s innings against Rajasthan Royals and faced just one delivery – a brutal pull shot to mid wicket that deserved so much more than the one run he scored! With Marsh, Hopes, Sangakkara and Yuvraj part of a powerful Kings XI Punjab batting line-up, Pomersbach will be pressing hard for inclusion in Saturday night’s team to meet the Chennai Super Kings. Having scored 152 runs in five matches, at a strike rate of 153.53, and been only dismissed once in that time, a place in the semi-final team would be richly deserved. |
LUKE RONCHI Mumbai Indians (Indian Premier League) |
Ronchi returns to Perth tomorrow following the completion of his first IPL campaign with Mumbai. He played in the Indians’ first four matches, in which he had no luck in being dismissed twice to brilliant run outs and fell in another game to a sensational catch from Chennai’s Virat Kohli. Mumbai finished fifth with a 7-7 record, one point behind fourth-placed Delhi. With two years remaining on his contract with the IPL’s “glamour” franchise, Ronchi will be part of a team desperate to improve and push for a semi-final berth in 2009. |
ADAM VOGES Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club (English county cricket) |
Voges was one of the shining lights in Nottinghamshire’s 73-run defeat at the hands of defending champions Sussex in the LV County Championship match at Trent Bridge last week. He was the second highest scorer (53) in the home side’s first innings of 251, and made 30 in the second dig as wickets fell around him in Notts’ pursuit of 286 for victory. They were eventually dismissed for 212. Notts then went into a Friends Provident Trophy double-header last Sunday and Monday needing one win to secure a semi-final berth. After the first match, away to Northamptonshire, was abandoned due to inclement weather, Voges propelled his team to the next round of the competition by blasting 82 from 96 balls to top-score in their win against Ireland at Trent Bridge. His innings enabled the home side to reach 6-241 from their 50 overs, but a late charge from the Irish threatened to steal the game from the Outlaws. In the end, the visitors would fall an agonising one run short at 6-240. Notts were beaten by Leicestershire overnight in a rain-affected Friends Provident Trophy match at Oakham. Needing to score 61 in 12 overs to win under the Duckworth/Lewis method, Notts fell 13 runs short, with Voges making five before getting out in the pursuit of quick runs. |
