There's a restaurant in Darwin (Magic Wok, I think) that does brilliant stir-frys. You select the meat and the veg and tell them how you want it cooked (mild, spicy etc). The usual suspects (beef, pork and lamb) but also crocodile, kangaroo and camel.
It may be just me but I never wanted to eat something so cantankerous, and with such bad table manners when it had a functioning heart.

lot of anger out there on both sides. As it doesn't affect me or mine (cold export, domestic market) I can see both sides. I always thought it was a bit pointless breeding tropical cattle and then selling your stock to enable a potential competitor to develop it's own industry.
I was aware of the practices when I was oversighting an Aboriginal buffalo company that was purely live trade but took the atitude you can't be half pregnant. The most upsetting thing to me was the totally unhygenic culling practices and environment. Think twice before you order a hamburger next time you're in Bali.

Cheers
I think they should have given the Indo's 12 months to sort themselves out and told the live exporters to plan that that the Indo market wouldnt exist in 12 months.
The compo payouts they will be facing for the suspension will be huge ...

15000 head stuck in Townsville as of today. !00000 due to be shipped out of Darwin in a short period of time. Feed, general welfare and transport alone could run into tens of millions in the firstmonth alone. What's more we're required by law to pay a levy that's supposed to stop these sort of problems arising.
If the Govt doesn't pay then I can see a good time for litigators and a bad time for industry watchdogs.

I can't see how they can win any case against the government. Any compo would need to be a government handout. And given that it was the industry that took their eye off the ball on this, then they are going to need to be pretty pursuasive.

I can see them having to pay in the short term if only to alleviate the immediate problem of the stranded moocs. They could then go after Livecorp et al.
Either way it's a double whammy. We lose 70% of that particular export market and it will cost a fortune to rectify. Like a lot things this govt does it doesn't appear to have thought things through.

Aye. I think MB has it right on what they should have done. Unforch, too much attention paid to public reaction.

why not send a whole pile of our experienced abattoir workers over there (at a fair whack of pay) and get them to do it?

Just watched Q&A. How anyone in the coalition can think Concetta Fierravanti-Wells doing anything in public is good for them is seriously deluded. She made Bob Katter look sane and rational, and Peter Garrett look informed. Man, what a nasty piece of trash she is.
Her 'debating' 'style' was truly reminiscent of Red.

And the Dalai Lama is in Australia at the moment. Gillard is copping it from Bob Brown for not meeting him. Why should she? She's professed no religious belief and the DL on this trip seems to have become a major media slut. Interviews (using the term very loosely) with Karl Stupidovich on Nein and Dave Hughes on Ten, plus a photo op with a Collingwood player, and a rumored guest judging spot on MasterChef. Not exactly serious statesman type stuff.
I'd prefer the PM focused on running the country than looked for the cheap PR stunt
And that Bob Brown suddenly dropped dead.

Tony Abbott is meeting the DL isn't he?
And totally agree on Concetta. Her last name initial of F-W are quite appropriate.
