Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (II)
Another report supports a price on carbon and the Mad Monks response is to say "we need better economists".

FFS, the Government already whimping out on the price on carbon...
Government frees motorists from bowser carbon tax pain
July 3, 2011 - 9:53AM
Motorists are already feeling the pain of rising petrol prices without the added burden of next year's carbon tax, the federal government says.
It plans to exempt fuel from any price rise under a carbon tax, worth about six cents under a $25 per tonne levy.
Environment Minister Tony Burke said the point of the carbon tax was to target Australia's 1000 biggest emitters.

"The individual motorist is not one of those," he told Sky News today.
"It makes sense for motorists to be carved out."
He said the government well understood that drivers were already under the pump, arguing price pressures were "100 per cent already there".
He wants Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to admit he was wrong about petrol costs going up under a carbon price.
"In the last four months, Tony Abbott on more than 20 occasions has said a price on carbon will put petrol up," Mr Burke said.
"Well, there is nothing that can refute a scare campaign as much as living the reality, and it's not frightening."

Bad policy and good politics go hand in hand. Cue the MM. Just seen Jools on "Insiders". Technically she's a heap better speaker than Abbott (not an 'uuhmm' or 'ahh' to be heard). Now she just needs to use it to sell a message.
Fuel was always going to be exempt (or at least the pretence of it being exempt) and it gives her the double whammy of negating the "Bob's the real PM" crap.
Been trying to google something I read the other day but still can't confirm. That Senator Bob was the Doc of Record when Hendrix died.

And here:
http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2010/s3015155.htm
(you can listen to the audio there too.)
TIMOTHY MCDONALD: When Jimi Hendrix died in 1970, it was a loss to music, but also to the youth culture of the time. A young Australian doctor, Bob Brown, now the leader of the Greens was at the hospital when Jimi Hendrix came in.
BOB BROWN: Well it was a big surprise of course. It was a sunny morning at St Mary Abbots hospital in South Kensington and he came, the trolley from the ambulance with the body of Jimi Hendrix and his girlfriend and other people with him but there was nothing to be done.
TIMOTHY MCDONALD: So were you a fan at the time?
BOB BROWN: No, I knew about Jimi Hendrix and I was not one to be following all the music of the day but I knew who he was, of course. Everybody did. And I knew that this was a terrific loss not just of his life, but as a talent for the world of music.
TIMOTHY MCDONALD: But his legacy continues. Both his albums and songs routinely appear in Rolling Stone magazine's top 500 lists, and more recordings continue to surface and are released through his estate.

Brown waves his tiny BoP about
"THE Greens have failed in an audacious bid to seize the coveted post of president of the Senate from Labor, as the party flexes its muscles as the chamber's new balance-of-power holder.
Greens leader Bob Brown today nominated Western Australian colleague Scott Ludlam for the position, challenging the incumbent, Labor's John Hogg.
The bid ultimately failed with the major parties ganging up on the Greens candidate and knocking him off by 62 votes to nine."
----------------------------------------------
A rare show of unity from the major parties. Brown's old Penis fails.

A bit of a no-brainer though. The pinkos weren't going to support a green candidate and give more fuel to the nonsense over the shadow PM. And the fascists after belabouring the point of Green power couldn't support them without looking more hypocritical than usual.

Was in transit between work sites and had an hour's listen to Bolts on GB and Oldfield on UE. Tony Windsor was copping an absolute shellacking from country callers on both stations. Even one of his mates rang in and said he couldn't understand what the hell Windsor was playing at.
Apparently there was a sh!tfest overnight between Katter and Windsor over the effects of the carbon tax on the Trucking Industry, with Windsor saying it would have little effect and Katter wanting to throttle him, such was the mad Hatter's incredulity.

Nup. My father thought he was a dickhead and not fit to tie his dad's shoelaces. Something about an outdoor picture theatre and allusions to a comparable abilty when it came to pubs, chooks and raffle tickets. GAE put it more succinctly and used the words fark, brothel and fistful of fifties.

So Windsor single handedly gets petrol exempted because of the distances the country folk travel (without any alternatives) and they have a go at him. Ungrateful qunts.

My thoughts exactly. But that's what happens when the level of debate descends to "he said/she said".
