Re: Rugby Gilly
Fox Sports 3 has been handed over to Rugby for the duration now.
They're just finishing up the screening of the birth of a great tradition. They're showing the Aus v NZ Semi from 1991.

Just WTF was Fatty O'Barrell thinking sledging the Blecks at the Spiv Town Hall send-off for the Wannabees? "When it comes to World Cups, the All Blacks are chokers".
Yeah, it may be factual, but will shirley turn into a massive woof against the Gold?

Does anyone really care what O'Barrell says? If Robbie Deans had said it, that would be a worry.

One of the great matches. Australia played just about perfect rugby in that first half culminating in THAT pass.

So, does the draw make it possible for us to knock Australia out again?

Good times. 1999 was a great year to live in London (as I did) - Cricket Gilly, Rugby Gilly, Rafter and the Poo had good runs at Wimbledon and then Davis Cup final in Nice. Also, I got to see the pointy end of Man U's treble.

Spoilt qunt. That is a year unlikely to be topped.
I guess you'd swap an Ashes belting featuring TGM and tgm for the Gilly but?

Re: Rugby Gilly
I don't think I would swap a single Ashes series victory for a World Cup triumph in any sport.
The 2003 Rugby World Cup win was sweet, though. Especially after all of the disgusting stuff that was written in Sydney's Daily Telegraph in the days leading up to the final, like encouraging Aussie fans to go to England's team Hotel in the middle of the night and try and disturb their sleep, and banging on about how boring the England team were....and then we went and scored more tries than Aus in the final. However it was too bad that I was in a rugby loving Australian country town and had been told that the only other English fan in the town had been bashed an hour earlier for taking his banter a bit too far.

A bit like being in a small Victorian town the night SA beat the Big V (back when it was taken seriously). A half dozen uninterested Kiwis and Chips and one rabid Barrell. Had to hightail it back to Arapiles and get the booze takeaway for the rest of the week.

No? I thought we did. I remember Jason Robinson scoring in the corner (I think) early in the second half. Oh wait, Aus scored the first try of the game, didn't they. Larkham? One try a piece, then.

You can't have a drawn game in rugby where 1 team scores one try and the other doesn't score one.

Australia are currently the Pakistan of Rugby. Capable of brilliant performances, but could equally self destruct and lose to a minnow team.

All the more reason to score more tries and have a disciplined defence.

Rubbish. The loss to Samoa was just a blip brought about by playing an underprepared 'B' side.
I'm predicting the Wallabies will go further than England but neither will win. I still think the Blecks will overcome the hoodoo & win at home.
Re: Rugby Gilly
So has Taips already given his early excuse as to why the Springboks wont win? Selections, Coaches etc....?

Hard to see anyone but the ABs winning. Of course, I'll be barracking for the traditional WC choke from the Blecks.
