Rubbish. The loss to Samoa was just a blip brought about by playing an underprepared 'B' side.
I'm predicting the Wallabies will go further than England but neither will win. I still think the Blecks will overcome the hoodoo & win at home.
All things being even aren't they due to meet in the semis?

The Wobblies will win. You heard it here first.

All the more reason to score more tries and have a disciplined defence.
Hard to see anyone but the ABs winning. Of course, I'll be barracking for the traditional WC choke from the Blecks.
If Paddy O'Brien is serious the ABs may find things not as cramped as they like them. Still having our main kickers and their backups practising a couple of hours a day wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for that, BD. We might be in with a chance now.

Well you've got me worked out, i'm not a 'true rugby fan' in the way i'm a cricket obsessive but i'll watch the internationals when they're on.
And surely England beating Australia at tiddlywinks is as good a bandwagon as any. Heck i've jumped all over the womens cricket, I have no shame.

Aye, there's a sick feeling in my stomach for an hour or so if Aus beat England in any sport. Then I go and get drunk and have sex and I feel better.

Henry wrote:I don't think I would swap a single Ashes series victory for a World Cup triumph in any sport.
The 2003 Rugby World Cup win was sweet, though. Especially after all of the disgusting stuff that was written in Sydney's Daily Telegraph in the days leading up to the final, like encouraging Aussie fans to go to England's team Hotel in the middle of the night and try and disturb their sleep, and banging on about how boring the England team were....and then we went and scored more tries than Aus in the final.
This furphy has to be one of the biggest beat-ups in the history of sport. As you will have noticed from many of my previous posts I am no fan of the Daily Telegraph. It is a News Limited tabloid - News Limited/International/Corporation is scum.
There was nothing mean and nasty in the Daily Telegraph that week. All the "anti-England" stuff in the paper was a piss-take consistent with healthy Australian-England rivalry over the years. Even the stuff that sailed close to the wind was child's play when compared to stuff you'd see in the English tabloids during an Ashes series (my point here isn't "hey look, they do it too", more "who takes the English tabloids seriously?").
The fact so many English supporters fell for this beat-up and perpetuate it to this day is a rare blemish on a sporting culture that usually sees through this kind of BS.

My biggest pleasure from the WC 2003 was Johnny Howard having to grit his teeth in front of 20+ sweaty poms.
Now that was classic.

Been flicking over for the past hour to the Foxy replay of the 2003 semi Aus v NZ. I forgot how well we played in that game. Defence was just outstanding. Blecks looked like rabbits in the headlights.

I was at that game. Went home freaking happy because I was fully expecting us to get thrashed.

I can imagine. A truly outstanding effort by the lads. And it was a bloody good side - perhaps much underrated by us at the time.

Re: Rugby Gilly
Saw the 2003 final on TV this afternoon.
Sounds strange, but even though it's 8 years later and I obviously know what happened in the end, I still felt nervous in those final minutes!
At least in 2003 i'd had about 5 beers by the time the game reached its climax- That helped calm the nerves a little bit.

One of my Pommy mates still has the message I left on his phone during extra time in that match.
I think it went something like "Fark me dead, I can barely farking watch this, I feel like vomiting. Fark fark fark farking fark.

I was working in an off licence when it was on, but it was always dead and my boss let me bring a TV in for it. Had one customer throughout the entire match, couldn't quite believe it when the drop goal went over, fairy tale stuff.
We should have won it way before though, thought we were going to choke (we threatened to numerous times throughout the match).

Re: Rugby Gilly
Aye, I was amazed how Aus somehow clung on and stayed in the game. A couple of soft penalties at the right time enabled us to hang on by our fingernails. The better side won in the end.
