County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Henry wrote:Hampshire- Almost certainly relegated, nothing to lose from here until the end of the season. What do they do? Drop Danny Briggs, who at 20 has an outside chance of being England's second spinner this Winter, and pick Dimi Mascarenhas as a specialist bowler with his 74mph dobbers.
Oh, and Imran Tahir ahead of Briggs as well. If it was earlier in the season and their relegation wasn't already all but confirmed, you could perhaps understand it, but considering an England call up for Briggs could be the only bright spot left in their season, why would they drop him now?
A no-brainer surely, pick Briggs. Mascarenhas will not bowl sides out - Briggs and tahir in tandem might. If Hampshire go down (and, praise the the Lord, take Yorkshire with them) it might be a while before they come back up. When they played us at Worcester - their average age was 31, ours was 23 or thereabouts, even allowing for Allan Richardson who was taught how to bowl by Francis Drake!

Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Perhaps Rod Bransgrove and co have become so obsessed with getting more international cricket to the Rose Bowl, they've forgotten about developing quality players to represent Hampshire on the field.
And the Counties get rewarded pretty handsomely by the ECB these days for every England player they produce, don't they?

Hampshire have been lured by the lights of the Champions League and appear to have moulded their season around success in the T20 - more fool them.
Assume for a second that they are relegated along with Yorkshire and one of Middlesex or Surrey are promoted. That will be at least three test match grounds hosting Div 2 championship cricket next season. Not quite the meritocracy that Mark Nicholas envisioned is it. Not that I'm biased, oh no.

Lancs have lost a wicket already, and are still half a street behind after their shambolic first knock.
Also the Red Rose is down to 10 men. I'd like to be able to say that losing Baz's "renegade" to the maternity ward is a big loss, but .... he hasn't been setting any wickets alight, least of all v Worcs. ~ Guilt is a terrible thing ....

Another hundred for Carberry. He'd be right in the mix for a Winter tour spot, but can he fly?

To join Jason Roy and Scott Borthwick in an erotic, sometimes violent game of bat v balls?

Can I fly?
If you are still on warfarin, it is safe to fly, but only if:
your blood tests have been stable for some time
you are back in time for your next blood test (or can arrange in advance to get it done where you are travelling)
you have enough tablets
you are insured with a company who know that you are on warfarin
If you are no longer on warfarin, it is safe to fly, but take the following precautions:
keep your legs moving during the flight (by bending your feet forward in your seat, getting an aisle seat so that you can walk around freely)
take one aspirin a day two days beforehand
get special stockings at the airport for the flight

I believe Carbs said he was on blood thinning medication (warfarin), but I've no idea how long you have to take it for.
Seems to me like, now he's up and around, he should be able to fly. But I'm not a doctor. I'm a lover.
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
of course he could fly ... millions of geriatrics eg with valve replacements, or in atrial fibrillation - either way they're on warfarin - must fly every year
He could even switch his warfarin to Clexane injections for a period before and after the flight, or come into the 21st century and use the new-fangled lizard spit oral anticoagulant that doesn't need to be monitored like warfarin does.
of course he can farking fly

He'd probably have had injections in his stomach for 6 weeks and will probably be on a course of medication for approx. 6 months.
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
of course Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram had injections in their bellies at least twice a day for most of their careers ... it can be done

Carberry's hundred dramatically decreases in significance as Jimmy Adams goes and scores one as well.
Somerset all but gone from the Championship race. Can't say i'm surprised. We are rudder-less without Tres.

Looks like being between Durham and Warwickshire now. Both teams with the upper hand in their matches.

Lancs 80-9 = all out.
As good as an innings defeat.
Baz can breathe again - his team seem safe.

Ouch Pedro! Your team has folded quicker than a hooker who's just been punched in the stomach by a fat guy with sores on his face.

It's good to know that Somerset aren't the only chronic chokers in county cricket. But to be honest, i'm amazed that Lancs are so high up the table considering how woeful their batting has been this season.
