Ashes venues 2013 & 2015 announced
2013 Ashes venues: Lord's, Trent Bridge, Old Trafford, Durham, The Oval.
2015 Ashes venues: Lord's, Trent Bridge, Cardiff, Edgbaston, The Oval.
Pleased for Chester-le-Street to get a non 'minnow' test match, conspicuous by its absence is Headingley...
Cardiff FFS.
I guess with more and more grounds pleasing everyone is more difficult than it used to be.

To be fair to Cardiff, they did a better than expected job hosting the Ashes test in 2009. But they really struggled to sell tickets for the Sri Lanka test this season, Weather didn't help, but still......
Good to see Old Trafford back as an Ashes venue, but unfortunately the pitch seems to have lost some of its bite after being rotated.

Re: Ashes venues 2013 & 2015 announced
Good to see Trent Bridge landing both after missing out in '09, though sure they will be disappointed in Yorkshire. Missing out on the big one twice must threaten Headingley's redevelopment plans and future as a Test venue?
What's the reason for home series 2 years apart anyway? I know they're trying to switch the timing of the series Down Under to avoid World Cup years, but not sure why that brings the next one in England forward two years. Are they permanently switching to a shorter Ashes cycle to reflect other countries' declining interest in Test cricket?

Did any Australians have anything to do with the selection process? There is clearly a conspiracy to prevent us from getting a whitewash in either series, what with one test in Durham in 2013 and one in Cardiff during 2015.

On a more serious and also positive note, thank fark the Ashes is still a 5 test match series until at least 2015.

Probably the only 5 match series remaining in the game now. If we only give South Africa 3, what hope does any other series have?
Heard a bit of Darren Gough on TalkSHITE earlier talking about the Headingley issue and it's all down to Yorkshire's finances that they won't bid the amount required for Ashes Tests, and he can't see that changing in the near future.

You couldn't make it up: Yorkshire spend squillions tarting their ground up only to be unable to bid for the very thing they spent the money for.

They pissed a lot of money away on the Pakistan-Australia Test which they thought would attract big crowds from the local Asian community but failed to do so. Sounds like in Gough's view there's been plenty more financial mismanagement, and not sure how much relegation will impact them?
Still, Glamorgan should have been automatically excluded for failing to pay up on a previous occasion.

Sky Sports News caption says Trent Bridge capacity "to increase from 16,959 to 17,000". Big project, adding a whole 41 seats!

Totally agree. Not only that but they didn't pay in full for Sri Lanka. Granted, they had Welsh Weather to deal with, but surely these counties should have a contingency for such occasions. Either that or don't bid.
Re: Ashes venues 2013 & 2015 announced
I think I'm right in saying that the Rose Bowl have yet to cough up the money they're due to the ECB for the test they staged this year.

I hate this whole bidding process. Hate it. Headingley were told by the ECB to fix the ground if they wanted to host big time cricket again. They've done that, but now they have, they don't have the finances to bid for the test! You have to feel for them.
The best grounds in England right now? Lord's, Trent Bridge, and Edgbaston. Cardiff way down the list.
Cardiff suddenly becoming a "gold level ground" or whatever it is is a joke. Complete joke. Sh*t weather, poor drainage compared to the other grounds, disinterested locals....F*cking joke.
Why don't we just award all five tests to Lord's and be done with it.

Headingley 'Carnegie' (scum) lost their rights to tests after their 'improvements' consisted of throwing up a large pile of green shoite in the middle of a nice-ish area and sucking the c0ckerel of the horrendous entity that is the massively in-debt but you wouldn't know it Leeds Met Carnegie University.

Seriously, do we have locked-in dates for the 2015 series yet?

Take that vilkrang. It was pretty arrogant of you to say we might be whitewashed in 2013. I bet there's quite a bit of shame running through your soul. I'm embarrassed for myself - I can't believe I didn't take your throwaway comment to task before now.
Re: Ashes venues 2013 & 2015 announced
2015 order of venues, dates ... anyone know? It doesn't seem to be on Cricinfo, nothing more advanced than Lever's initial post on this thread.

The five matches will be played at Lord's, Trent Bridge, the SWALEC Stadium, Swansea, Edgbaston and The Oval.
However I don't know the dates nor the order of the stadia.
I cannot see Lord's as being first up . . .
PS Bugger, I didn't see Lever's post on P 1!
Oh well . . .
