Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
Well he worked as NZ bowling coach but I guess that only strengthens your argument:P

He tried to get Fred to change his action, so he was probably right there

And Aus rejected him for Cooley.

Tbf Cooley has a rather good record (no matter what people say)taipan wrote:MrPrez wrote:Well he worked as NZ bowling coach but I guess that only strengthens your argument:P

Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
Hmm, these days i'm sceptical about Cooley. His one success would appear to be Simon Jones. Apart from that, he f*cked up Jimmy when he was England's bowling Coach, trying to change his action and consequently giving him a stress fracture, never got Harmison to be more consistent, and has made no progress at all with Mitchell Johnson since working with Australia, whilst Ben Hilfenhaus went backwards.
One thing I noticed that AB achieved with NZ was to add a yard of pace to Tim Southee's bowling.

Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
I think he's a decent coach, I like the way he talks about it. I think he probably did do some good foundation work with a few of the England players. I don't think he's had a long enough period anywhere to be able to establish himself and have a long lasting effect. You certainly cannot categorically say he's going to be a failure.
Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
Well he's certainly better than Kevin Shine. What a bowler-wrecker that man was.

Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
I think that's possibly a bit harsh. We had many of them flailing around like a bunch of discarded muppets and headless corpses.
I probably liken him to a crap mechanic, he won't make things worse but he won't make them a whole lot better.

Well, even David Saker had a blip, talking Broad up as the "Enforcer" and encouraging him to bowl like a c*ck.
How many bowling coaches has it been since Cooley? Four? I count Shine, Donald, Gibson, and Saker. Was there anyone else?

Please don't mention Kevin Shine. I'd forgotten all about him.

Mushy?
Re: Steve Waugh: ruthless England setting the standard
The jury is out on Donald but NZ seemed happy with him, offered him another contract but Kirsten's offer was seductive enough to allow him to return home. NZ probably overachieved in the WC and seemed to have a good bowling plan.

Prerdictably someone took my AD post seriously.
