Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Here as mentioned above are the "visual answers" - so anyone who wants can see who it was. I won't yet show the "missing" answers ...
In many cases, the "quiz picture" was extracted from the bigger picture (of the player) which is now shown below, under the spoilers.
Otherwise, I'll now add such a "bigger picture" of the player, demonstrating either the grip in question, or the release of the ball from that grip.
I think, quiz apart, this collection is a quite interesting study in spinners' grips.

- Spoiler:
Ajantha Mendis. I won't add the diagram of the "carrom ball", which looks a lot like the Iverson/Gleeson model to me (see 16, 17)
Answers 2 & 3
- Spoiler:
Shane Warne - strong fingers rather than particularly long.
Paul Adams. Frog in a blender - and like Froggy Thomson, it seems the effectiveness wore off a bit once the batsmen got used to the bloody shock of the sight.
Answer 4 (two pics)
- Spoiler:
Danny Vettori. He should wear a longer shirt, with that high hop ..........

Abdul Qadir. Exaggerated cocking of the wrist for extra "whip" ..........
Answer 8 (two pics)
- Spoiler:
Muttiah Muralitharan.
Answers 9, 10
- Spoiler:
Stuart MacGill. A poor man's Qadir?
Simon Katich. Fingers wrapped so far around the seam, it's a surprise he can release it at all.

Answer 11 (two pics)
- Spoiler:
Anil Kumble. Very high "open" arm, you would think makes it easier to pick?
Answers 13, 14
- Spoiler:
Shahid Afridi
Richie Benaud - very long fingers! (Sadly invisible here - look back to the question pics)
Answers 16, 17
- Spoiler:
Jack Iverson, with that "spring-loaded" middle finger option
John Gleeson, clearly an inheritor of that mantle. The middle finger has sprung.
Answers 18, 19
- Spoiler:
Bernard Bosanquet, associated with the invention of the googly. Not sure he is not keeping his secrets from the camera in this very posed pose.
Clarrie Grimmett, very round arm, but high trajectory. Lobbing tricky grenades. He was 44 in this pic, but hours out in the sun without slip, slap, slop as they used to do, and travelling from one country to another and from state to state until he was able to make a living presumably added cares and years to his face as well!

Horribly familiar of late perhaps, for an Aussie.
But you've done a JGK now! He's OB, not SLA!

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
All exaggerated (strictly cricketing) desires aside, Colvin is quite often the star of the England Women. She again won the Player of the Series award against Oz in the summer.
As I said, I think the most interesting part of the quiz is not my job of selecting, downloading/scanning, cropping, editing, uploading and posting, but the study in grips across a very wide range of times, countries and styles.
But I'm glad you (and for a while, JGK) enjoyed the trip.
