Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
For a Chinaman, I would expect the fingers wrapped lovingly around the ball, usually around the seam.
Grips between index and middle you'd usually expect (barring tricks, wizardry or flukes) to be heading the other way.
And yes, definitely. Highly intelligent ovine genes though. With a touch of mandolin. And a nice little chianti perhaps.

Skulls, I have to get to bed - I'd apologise again, except it is nearly half one here
I'll get back on any further answers you give, when I can.

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
On those last few:
Correct are 4 and 9.
6: more a function of low-res base pictures (it can be difficult to find pictures of grips) than sheer age. Although these must be 30-35 years old.
Also, wrong continent (and, marginally, skin shade).
19: Curiously perhaps, that IS an older picture. ...
13: No, but you are in exactly the right area, and era.
On your questions:
7: Left-arm yes, but probably not orthodox (although this player was a box of tricks, and you never know ...)
12: Very much so (as the white ball suggests), and still playing. Though not in the most recent round of ODIs.

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Incidentally .....
Of those eight left, 3 x Aus, 2 x Pak & Eng and 1 x India.
The Aus all "bygone", all the others still alive, and all but one (of the two Pak) more or less active (though I am never sure who has currently "retired" from what ... and these things can sometimes be revoked, it seems. ...)

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Hmm, all 3 Aussies remaining are dead. And 6 is from the late 70 and early 80s, so it can't be an Aussie leggie. And 19 is an older picture...

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
6: correct (the former)
13: slightly younger (possibly a couple of decades younger). And like Katich, not primarily noted for his bowling, though equally he has proved handy (and has been more often used than Fleas) .
19: older (but not so much).
Hmmmm, I am beginning to wonder if I have "bought one" with 19. Perhaps it is just that player's characteristic grip, and not his actual hand? Apologies if so!

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
So 19 is older than O'Reilly?
Is he a leggie (which that grip looks like) or an offie?

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Marginally.
Definitely a leggie. With a low arm and a high, grenade-type trajectory. Probably still makes Wally Hammond turn in his grave.

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
That's the man.
I still think it probably is him .... it's very clearly a posed picture, as opposed to a snapshot in play. So a proper camera setup, and a good quality pic would be feasible, even back in the day.
What of 23, btw?

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Anyway, I must away ..... six more to go.
At some point I'd like to post the "visual answers" - pics of the 24 players in bowling action, so that whoever will, can see the various styles for themselves.
In many cases that will be the original pic from which the quiz pic was taken, or else a pic showing each of the grips (or failing that, the "release point" from it).

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
23 is indeed that player.
The grip sort of explains the nickname - aggressive intent to the point of bloodlust!
Which means only five to go ...

Re: New Picture Quiz: "Get a grip"
Ah, I didn't see your answer to 13.
No, not him. (And I said the non-Aussies were all still living, I think.)
Someone more like Basil Brush, if you know that other eternally young character.
