England at the Oval in 06 was stronger and faster ....from half an innings and 30 runs down to winning in the space of a tea break
I blame

it was like living in your parents house until the age of 40 and then calling yourself rich based on your dad's income. Very bad for the game.

Tremendous batting from Saf this morning - Amla went berserk towards the end and Sniffer looked like missing out on his ton!
Well done the Jarpies ... shame it's not a full 5 test series ...though frankly (on this evidence), the last thing the Aussies want is a 5-0 hammering!!
47 all out ... whoda thought it!

Worth saying twice, I suppose.
As for The Oval '06, some fat beardy f*ck is the one who should be ashamed.

Weirdest test match for some time. Shocking second innings batting from the Aussies. Shocking first innings collapse from the Saffers but they had the last laugh!

Ok congratulations then. Pretty amazing to win from being in such a parlous position and your hero Philander played no small part in the win.
Anyway a big win for test cricket. Nothing can beat a match where all the various vicissitudes keep fans on the edge of their seats.
And a thumbs down to starting a test mid-week. As mentioned the other day, there's always a chance that the weekend crowds don't even get to see a ball bowled.

It's just one of the most poorly scheduled tours I've heard of. One expects relatively impromptu tours to be a bit of a mess, but this has been tied up for an age. It's absolutely pathetic. It's doubtful anyone (players, fans, media) will be sated after the 2nd Test, apart from the greedy and grubby little boards involved.

Actually you were questioning his pace earlier but he touched 150 several times and was regularly over 145 on day one. His pace dropped off on day two. Maybe playing so little first class cricket of late had an effect as his legs wouldn't be conditioned to so much bowling.

Maybe he cliche'd a drop of pace for more movement.

Weird match indeed, especially so for a 3-day Test to have the most uneventful day as the last one.

i wonder if the aussies will complain about the pitch to the icc once again
Only if they lose (although ironically that would mean that the wicket improved as the game went on). Siddle batted 9, surely?
lyon top-scored with 14
Absolutely right, TO, sorry didn't realise that he'd overtaken Siddle until I looked at the scorecard. He is the 3rd Australian No.11 to topscore and the third time (out of 8 ) it has happened on this ground - the last occasion being GBH with 42 out of 304 in 2005:
No 11s Top Scoring in Test Innings
At 55.32% it does look to take the biscuit as far as the highest percentage for a last wicket partnership. The closest other examples that I can find are as follows:
3rd Test, India v. NZ, Hyderabad, 15-20 October 1969
3rd Test, Sri Lanka v. Pakistan, Kandy, 26-28 August 1994
The Siddle/Lyon partnership is exceeded, at 55.98%, by this rather more substantial one, which unlike the latest one, did decide the outcome of the match:
4th Test, Eng. v. WI, The Oval, 24-28 July 1980
Many thanks to JGK for pointing this one out on "weird, weird statistics" thread.
