Like he ever really wanted the job. Nice bit of publicity for him considering the publicity whore he is!

Smart man. By hinting that he might throw in his lot with England, he's forced Barcelona's hand and - word is - they're going to sack Rijkaard to make way for him.
What a bunch of suckers the FA and tabloid media are. Mourinho has always said he only wanted to manage Portugal and only at the end of managerial career when he's achieved all that he can in club management.

Brian Barwick's dance of a thousand veils obviously didn't work.

After a number of world-class managers have turned down the FA's approach we'll end up with another muppet/yes-man who will ensure we won't qualify for the World Cup.
Then hopefully the Government will have the sense to disband the current FA and create a new governing body with money behind it and a successful England team as its top priority.

I'd settle for an FA that could just stop producing technically deficient young players.

They should make a statement that their aim is for England to produce the most skilful and technically gifted players in the world by 2020, then do everything to ensure that happens.JKLever wrote:I'd settle for an FA that could just stop producing technically deficient young players.

Group young players by height/weight instead of age, play with a smaller ball at junior levels, use experimental rule changes in the lower divisions to discourage high-tempo long-ball football in favour of the passing game. Then we might have the talent and strength in depth of Brazil.
It's not foreign players in the Premiership that are holding us back, if the English players were good enough they would come through whoever was in their way.

Of course.
But in this blame-everyone-but-ourselves culture of ours, those nasty foreigners are always the first port of call when the lynch mob are getting their jackboots on.
