Re: Dhoni verdict
So who's the Bannie reserve keeper? And who'll be captain in Adelaide?

Re: Dhoni verdict
I have a hunch that Gambhir is the nominated V/C which is funny because his place should be on the line too.

That should guarantee a Pair for GG in Adelaide then.

Viru is VC. So I guess he'll be skipper.

Only Yadav, Kohli, Ashwin, and maybe Zaheer Khan should be sure of their places in Adelaide.

Re: Dhoni verdict
ashwin? i'd play ojha instead
sehwag is not a long term captaincy choice, but he will be captain for adelaide
dhoni looks like he is near the end of the line with regards to his place in the team itself, let alone captaincy. he made a statement that he may retire from tests next year anyways, so the selectors should be careful of appointing someone who is clearly not looking at keeping his job for too long
the next generation has not thrown up many options yet, so sehwag may have to play the role kumble played in 07-08. keep the seat warm for the youngster establishing himself in the test side. out of all the candidates kohli is most suited for captaincy, though he has a lot to do if he wants to make a permanent place in side as a batsman

Judging by this test he doesn't.

Re: Dhoni verdict
I'm sure Dhoni would be more than happy to quit tests altogether and concentrate on his IPL career.
Lucky for him, i'm sure most Indian fans wouldn't mind. He's like a reality TV cricketer- All hype, and no actual substance.

i hope they dont plan to keep sehwag as captain too long. might as well start making plans to have kohli take over sooner rather than later. appoint him VC in the odi and test sides

Re: Dhoni verdict
Former BCCI selector Mohinder Amarnath told CNN-IBN on Wednesday that BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is also the owner of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings that MS Dhoni captains, overruled the sacking of the Indian skipper after India's eight consecutive overseas Test defeats in 2011-12.
"All five selectors wanted Dhoni to be sacked after India were whitewashed in England and Australia, but BCCI president intervened to allow Dhoni to continue as captain," Amarnarth told IBN18 Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai, on Wednesday.
"I considered resigning as selector after I was overruled. We decided to sack Dhoni and replace him with new ODI and Test captains," the former selector said.
"Selectors picked Virat Kohli as captain for the tri-series. Dhoni was dropped from the 17-man squad," he said, adding "Dhoni doesn't deserve to be in the team on current performance. Dhoni is not good enough to play Test cricket for India."
Throwing Gautam Gambhir's name into the fray, Amarnath, who is known to play and talk with a straight bat, said until someone is asked to captain, we won't know if he is good to lead India or not. "No captain can survive after two whitewashes in overseas series. Replacement for Dhoni will only be known if someone gets a chance. Gambhir should replace Dhoni as captain of the Indian Test team."
Amaranth also hightlighted the need to blood youngsters and giving the selectors a "free hand" in picking a team. "Young players have to be given a chance to perform. BCCI should ensure selectors can function in a free and fair manner," he said.
The member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team also suggested that it's time for Sachin Tendulkar to retire. "Sachin should leave the scene quickly, his reflexes have slowed," he opined.
Reacting to Amarnath's revelation, IPL chairman, Rajiv Shukla, said, "I don't think it's appropriate for any former selector to make any such statements. This an unnecessary thing. Selectors are independent to take decisions. The board never mounts any pressure on them."
Kris Srikkanth, who led the selection panel Amarnath was part of, refused to comment. "I don't want to comment. Everybody has the right to opinion. I would not like to reveal what happened at the selection committee meeting," he said.

Re: Dhoni verdict
I didn't see the interview, had enough of cricket post mortems ruling the telly tbh.
It would be beyond thick by his logic to give it to the least deserving senior player in the team.
Would've thought it was Kohli considering he was promoted as VC rather hurriedly.

Re: Dhoni verdict
That'd have been a lead by example type...
Aye, we can call for Dhoni to be sacked, but there aren't many around elsewhere either. Not that he merits his place in the team just because of captaincy. Maybe there's a Smith like somewhere.

gambhir's last test hundred was in 2009 wasnt it? he's a test player who has had one and a half good years and has been less than mediocre before and after
