Horrible two weeks
The last two weeks have been horrendous, not having internet is more serious than I thought. I've been doing crazy things like washing, tidying and cleaning.
Thank f*ck I can stop all that bullsh!t now.

Long time Vilky. Eat out of pans. That'll save some washing up for you.

Poor, vilky. Hope you wore rubber glove while you were doing all that cleaning, otherwise you'll get dishpan hands.

It is. She wasn't there, so he had to do the cleaning.

I hear that. Went on holiday last year to a place with no wifi and slack phone reception - it was the longest week of my life. I was walking around in a daze, not sure what to do with myself. Think I forgot my name at one point.
How did we live without the internet? I mean, seriously - how did we survive?

He undid all his good work by causing global warming, though.
Pretty sure that was the gist of his film that I didn't watch.

I know that I actually lost touch with childhood friends because there was no facebook and no one was into emailing or msn or whatevs, and not many kids had cell phones then. That wouldn't happen now. I'd have like, 1000 fb friends and still not actually know most of them.

Remember when you had to memorise people's phone numbers? Fancy that! No speed dials or "virtual" phone books - you could reel off ten of your best friends' numbers off the top of your napper.
Crazy days. I don't even know the number of my own mobile.

I still remember our first landline. And I just remember before area codes got a 1.
But I didn't call many people in them days.

Re: Horrible two weeks
That reminds me, I used to live in Nottingham until I was 12, then moved down south (and thankfully got rid of the ridiculous accent I had).Dello wrote:Remember when you had to memorise people's phone numbers? Crazy days. I don't even know the number of my own mobile.
Anyway I didn't keep in touch with any of my friends from the Nottingham times but then randomly bumped into one at university. We got along pretty well for a while but he eventually got married to a rancid whore who didn't like me which kind of meant he couldn't like me anymore.
But basically when we were younger it was me, him, a guy called Tom who nobody knows the whereabouts of apparently and a guy called Tim, who the guy I met still knew.
So Tim came to visit at university and for some reason took an instant dislike to me. He was always a bit odd, and I did beat the sh!t out of him once just before I left Nottingham so maybe he held a grudge for that.
Anyway, I still remembered his old number so I spent about a year calling his parent's house every time I was drunk at 2 in the morning, which was surprisingly often.
That wouldn't happen these days. The only number I know is my own number, and the previous number I had before that. Still just about remember my Mum's home phone number as well, but I have to think about it whereas after 7 years I still somehow remembered this blokes parent's house number, causing much hilarity (for me anyway).

I still remember their phone number now actually. Might give them a bell tonight for old time's sake.

Weh-heh-heeellll, oh how the mighty have fallen. Oh how they've verily dropped from their lofty perch of 'mobiles are for dicks'. Now said gentleman is trying to save face with the old 'don't know my own mobile number'. Memory's a harsh mistress.
Re: Horrible two weeks
pfffffffffffffffffffft.
There was a whole thread about it at the time. My bank made me get one - some bollocks about their online banking security USP being the amazing ability to send SMS authorisation codes to... do something. Speed up something. Slow it down? Spin it right round, baby, right round?
I should really pay more attention when people are explaining things to me. But I just get so easily dis... oh - a ladybird! No. Just a bit of fluff. Still: fluff!
Anyway, that's why I've now joined the mobile revolution. I was taken advantage of.
