The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
It took the paramedics two hours to get Muamba's heart working inedependently apparently. I shudder to think what the outcome would have been if he had been somewhere with no immediate medical support on hand when he had his cardiac arrest.

That news alone suggests the outcome of this isn't going to be the one everyone's hoping for.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
Well, the best that can be hoped for is some kind of reasonable quality of life for him I guess, don't think anyone expects him to play football again but if there was no hope of any meaningful recovery I don't expect he would have got this far.

Seems like he's one of the few footballers in England who is actually intelligent. Obtained several A Levels and wants to pursue a career as a Doctor after his football career.

It was Bill Shankly who said, and I paraphrase - Football is more important than life and death. Perhaps we can now put that remark in its proper perspective.

But Shankly was KIDDING, Basil. Serious yes, serious business on the Mersey, but it was tongue-in-cheek. Shanks wasn't a complete humourless lunatic - just "driven".

Good luck to the man. From the news reports it still sounds a bit dodgy for him - still listed as critical.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
So despite calls from the majority of Blackburn fans of "Steve Keane out", they have resisted the calls, and now Keane has steered them out of the relegation zone.
There's a lesson to be learned there. Having said that, after all the abuse he's copped from his own fans, if I was Keane and I manage to keep Blackburn in the Premier League at the end of the season, I would be handing in my resignation in May, with a "go f*ck yourselves" look on my face.

Well I think he will have to do a bit more to prove himself to the point where he would be able to quit and be likely to get another Premier League job. The players seem to have united behind him at least, and they have a couple of players who can make a difference in the talented young Hoilett and the reliable old goal-getter Yakubu. And some absolutely piss poor teams below them!
The fans should probably have turned on the owners first rather than the manager. Venky's seem clueless about running a Premier League club and any manager would be up against it there at the moment.

Hoilett's off in the summer. Out of contract. He's a cracker of a free. He'll end up at a CL club.

I said something similar a few pages ago. Actally I would prefer it if Kean walked round the ground giving Blackburn's "fans" the finger - that's all they deserve.

Arsenal and Bayern have been recently linked. To be honest, I think he'll have his pick - 21 year old fast, direct winger with good skills and Premier League pedigree, on a free? That's a no-lose deal for everyone.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
What's with Bayern sniffing up English youngsters nowadays? First the Dale Jennings kid and now Hoilett?

isn't Blackburn his youth team?
Paraphrased question- what's with Bayern sniffing up English based players?

Think the fact that he played for St.Pauli must have helped stoke rumours too.

How shit are Liverpool at the moment? 5 defeats in 6, the last two to teams in the relegation zone, and in danger of being swallowed up by the mid-table pack. Still, at least they won the Carling Cup, by beating a Championship team on penalties...

Has Dalglish done any better than Hodgson? Certainly got a much longer leash despite playing some right drivel and making some shite transfers.

And some appalling judgement calls in connection with a certain Mr Suarez.

(Fuc-) King (Useless) Kenny would be getting slaughtered by the scousers if he was Hodgson and had spaffed £100 million up the wall on "talent" only to end up with an utterly mediocre side scrapping it out with the Sunderlands, Evertons and Swanseas of this world for a top ten finish.
Still - no sympathy for them. They treated the last manager (who wasn't given £100 million to rebuild the side) like shit and now have their beloved Kenny back in charge. Be careful what you wish for.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
Swansea beat Man City, Arsenal and almost Chelsea and Spurs.
Lest we forget.
Although we did go down to the tactical Magician Moyes. Fark.
