The Football Thread - 09/10
I'll be honest, I couldn't be bothered to find the old one.
Anyone watched the Confederations Cup final? Is there anything worse than Brazilian defending? Or anything better than Brazilian attacking? That was one hell of a final and a brilliant performance from the Yanks though. Brazil have now won every match they've ever played on the continent of Africa, apparently. There doesn't seem to be much to fear from them but they have showed character and ability. With that record, you might fancy them for next year.
It would be nice to see a World Cup in South Africa as full of shocks and good games as this poxy competition though.

They're dancing in another tournament victory. Legends.
They're not that bad defending really, it's just that the USA's first two attacks resulted in goals, one of which was pretty flukey, which disoriented them for some time. Masterclass in attacking football in the second half though.

The Confed cup is like the charity shield or supercup of international football though. WGAF?

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10
The confederations cup may be unimportant but it is still a decent quality international tournament. It's more like the World Club Cup to international football than the Charity Shield. If England won it nobody would be complaining. Brazil certainly played to win it last night and were visibly delighted when they did win through. It's very easy to talk it down but that's the English loser attitude, really - whilst Brazil go in to every trophy wanting to win England would only be happy winning this or that, even though they'd be lucky to even make a final.
Re: Citeh. Man City were bound to build a hell of a side this summer. Arsenal must be shitting themselves looking over their backs.
In other news, it looks like Forest are about read to unveil a few summer signings; Paul Anderson, David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola are all expected to sign between now and Friday. In order of assessment; promising young winger, lazy but talented young tosser, old donkey who scored some goals last season.
Not the most exciting list ever.

Stick Keano cardboard cutout masks on seven spectators, field four real players, and you will terrorise all before you.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10
True to my prediction Forest have just signed David McGoldrick for £1m. Seems quite a lot to say Southampton have no money. I hear Southampton are still in Michael Jackson land with no definite saviour on the horizon. Administrators speculating that the club may have to be wound up if no deal is done by the start of next week. We'll have Andrew Surman as well, please . . .

Didn't see it but I notice Eng u21's got humped in the final - will Eriksson be touting Pearce as much tomorrow morning?

Watched it. They were rotten. Less technical ability and less invention than their opponents.
And a total spastic in goal.
They're the England blueprint to a tee.
And what was Pearce doing only selecting three strikers in his squad? Schoolboy error - even Sven took four (albeit with the non-playing Walcott as one of them) to the last World Cup. And that was stupid too.

Matt Le Tissier's group has withdrawn its offer totake over the club.

Looking that way.
There's always someone who steps in at the last second to save the day with these things, but knowing Southampton's incompetence, he'll turn up a day too late.

Benzema to Madrid for £30m
So what's that? £166m on 3 players - shall we be hearing from Mr Platini?

Of course not. Fifa and UEFA seem to hate the PL for some reason.
Behold these comments from that idiot Blatter http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8125216.stm
What a numpty.

Madrid banking on their famous 1 - 5 - 4 formation then this season. Should be interesting, anyway. It will probably be a bit scary if they now go and spend £50m on centre-halves . . .

make that £178m on 4 - raul albiol (cb) signed for 12m too. might still get ribery.
and, surprisingly, platini has already spoken out:

I wonder what will happen if they manage to still not win anything, their defense and midfield is still weak and Barca are the best team in Europe atm, so their is a high chance they still will end trophyless.

Well well well, United are in the money after cashing in on Ronaldo and are now signing Wigan players and looks like the long past it Michael Owen on a free transfer...

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10
The Owen free transfer could turn out to be a great deal to be honest. If he gets himself fit he will score a shed load of goals with the service he'll be getting at United.
I know that's a big "if" though.

What service? Now Ronaldo's gone, their attacking midfield looks empty.
