Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, Lords, 29 June, 2012
I also wonder if crowds will suffer if we don't have "box office" batsmen in the one-day game. People want to see sixes and innovative strokeplay in limited overs cricket.

Brass Monkey wrote:Yeah, I'll have to put up with it for now. Like I had to put up the non brave new world after the 2007 WC that failed in the 2011 WC. It's not like I'm constantly bringing up my rightness all the time about that debacle.
But at least this approach makes some sense given the change in ODI playing regs and it'll be on bouncy pitches to boot. We had no plan for the 2011 WC at all, twas all about the Ashes and nothing else. And at least the next WC will not be after an arduous tour somewhere.

Meh. Doesn't change the fact that the players just weren't up to it, as they weren't the three years previous to that.
Beamer could have a point about the missionary position top order.

It should do, I know. But I'm a hard girl to please.
Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, Lords, 29 June, 2012
I see Nine is covering the game from 9.45pm, but no coverage on Gem before then, as they've decided a Law and Order repeat and some soppy Keanu Reeves movie will get better ratings. Half-arsed and lame!

Just checked the Abbey Road webcam & the weather seems to be ok around St Johns Wood so we may get a full game.

Thank God for Rupert. Fox is covering the whole shebang.
Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, Lords, 29 June, 2012
We elected to field? We have been rubbish chasers as long as I can remember. Bell to extend the run of consecutive ODI's where an opener makes a ton.

If you win the toss on a cloudy morning in England in a one-day game, you put the opposition in, no decision at all.

I think this could be one of those where the side batting second has virtually a 10 over advantage, if the sun comes out later. All they can do is stick around through these start-stop early stages, but it will be really tough to post something competitive.

Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, Lords, 29 June, 2012
Good stuff this, from England. They don't look like getting out. Solid old forward defensives all over the place. The only real downside is David Lloyd distracting from the encapsulating cricket with his much less interesting 'Men and Sheds' book. Think it's a bit silly and a bit selfish that he's trying to stop everybody looking at Trott patting it to cover in a batting powerplay.
Re: England v Australia, 1st ODI, Lords, 29 June, 2012
Aye, cracking lesson in defence here. Should get through this without being bowled out if we can carry on this fine form.
