Aus will be lucky to scratch up 200 here. Looks a good call on the toss.

Amazed to Forrest experiment is still going on. Warner is certainly more miss than hit and has been for a while.

As I said last week, typical English conditions, win the toss and bowl. Let's hope we don't let them off the hook late on like Aus did when Morgan got going in the first game.skully wrote:Aus will be lucky to scratch up 200 here. Looks a good call on the toss.

When will Bill Lawry be drafted in as pinch hitter?

Pretty simple cricket. It's what has frustrated me since Pidg retired. The inability of Aus bowlers to bowl dot balls.Brass Monkey wrote:Just good tight bowling so far.

Kudos to England for being able to use the conditions way better than Aus. Professional stuff.beamer wrote:As I said last week, typical English conditions, win the toss and bowl. Aye, but I'd say it's easier to bowl length in these conditions than Australian.

Is it just me but does Nick Knight look like Nick Harper

Meh, 3 metres from the stumps is the same in England as in Aus, no? Or does the Imperial system make a difference?Brass Monkey wrote:skully wrote:Pretty simple cricket. I just mean the bowler's more likely to get smashed off his line in better batting conditions.

Mebee, but I just think the English bowlers are demonstrating their professionalism way better than the Aussies, and have done since 2005 (excluding 2006-07).Brass Monkey wrote:skully wrote:

Well, there's the whole BLee and Midge thing, I suppose. But even they have performed well in ODIs. Siddle and Hilf look very solid, as does Harris.

Still plenty of time for him as a Test bowler, just consider where a few others were at his age.Brass Monkey wrote:Finn does look the bizzle in ODIs... shame he can't keep such tidy lengths in Tests.

Aye, there's time and as you say Broad and Jimmy didn't mature until later. But it's just a shame that everything he should be doing in Tests he's doing in ODIs. I thought he may have turned the corner, but in the last Test he displayed the 'two good spells amongst filth' method that he used before.
Re: England v Australia, 4th ODI, Chester-Le-Street, 7 July, 2012
There it is in a nutshell, Dan. A couple of buffed bench pressers bowling half volleys with the very odd peach. I would much prefer a man who bowls a 5 over spell of 0-10 and then pulls out a couple of screaming legcutters to end with 2-20 off 10 overs. Midg and Bung are not it. Siddle and Milf have shown promise but way too many half volleys for my liking.Brass Monkey wrote:skully wrote:Mebee, but I just think the English bowlers are demonstrating their professionalism way better than the Aussies, and have done since 2005 (excluding 2006-07).

Aye, you're probably right. At least a couple of your young 'uns look like they could become tight bowlers.
Re: England v Australia, 4th ODI, Chester-Le-Street, 7 July, 2012
His record's not exactly terrible, averaging well under 30, although obviously some cheap Bangladesh wickets contributed to that. Does seem to have a habit of allowing the opposition to relieve the pressure a bit though.Brass Monkey wrote:beamer wrote:Still plenty of time for him as a Test bowler, just consider where a few others were at his age.Brass Monkey wrote:Finn does look the bizzle in ODIs... shame he can't keep such tidy lengths in Tests.

It does say a lot about the current bowling resources that someone with his wicket taking ability isn't first choice though. A decade ago he would probably have been first name on the teamsheet.

Yeah, he has a knack, but for some reason I feel that it's because the batsmen don't know whether it'll be a jaffa or a half-volley - most of the time it relieves the pressure.
