Re: Olympics 2012 (III)
The Opening Ceremony was better (better planned, more of a show, and less bitty) than the other one. Liked the umbrellas, and Hawking's role. Though it also dragged on too long once the parade began.
(PS: I didn't watch every minute, - before anyone picks me up on missing a couple of minutes of something bitty, that was less planned, less of a show, or someone farting, or something ...)

Shocker. Had no inkling. Soon they'll be telling us that Julian Clary is gay.

Wonder why Thorpe was so resistant to coming out, when it was plain as the nose on his face? It's not like he was admitting he was a cycling drug cheat.
Apologies if it's in the article linky, I didn't read it.

I wondered if that was Parky's opening statement.

Australian race walker Jared Tallent to be awarded gold medal from London Olympics after Russian’s results disqualified
23 minutes agoSource: The Daily Telegraph
AUSTRALIAN walker Jared Tallent will be awarded the gold medal for the 50km race at the 2012 London Olympics after the Russian winner was disqualified for doping.
Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin took gold in the race but he was later busted for doping.
On Thursday night, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland upheld an appeal by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) against ‘selective’ disqualification of six Russian athletes by the Russian athletics federation.
The CAS ruled all competitive results from Kirdyapkin from August 20, 2009 to October 15, 2012 are disqualfied.
The ruling means Tallent will definitely receive the gold medal for his London race.
Russian athletes are serving an indefinite ban imposed by the IAAF after a bombshell WADA report in November uncovered state-sponsored doping and widespread corruption at the heart of Russian track and field.
