Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (VI)
JGK wrote:So in summary:
Newman thinks it takes to long to get gun licences and uses crappy and slow processing by the public service as evidence to show that the current system isn't working and at the same timing is busy sacking public servants who, amazingly, do things like process gun licence applications and the like.
And his solution is, rather than improve the public service, just to take away the need for them by relaxing all the controls.
You couldn't make this stuff up.
The chips are in 7th heaven....eg all around the wide bay burnett region, the residents have called a lull in banjo strummin' on the verandah, so they can dig up the automatics they buried in the backyard during the ljh gun buy back

the problem with the billies rolling back the ljh reforms is that guns will travel across the border...no wonder the coppers are v cranky...I think there is a case for the Fed govt to intervene in the High Court...failing that nationalise the Chips or expel them (minus the reef and the mines) from the federation

Won't make any difference. There has always been plenty of guns for the crims. Most of them are being smuggled in from O/S but the Customs service has been cut back so much they can't pick them all up.

Really? Was Martin Bryant a crim?

Idiotic statement. Why did'nt you include the rest of my statement or are you deliberately trying to take my comment out of context. Bryant committed his crimes before any reforms, obviously.

OK, I've re-read it, happy to concede that I may have misunderstood your intent, though I'd be certain horrie's coppers are cranky about more than just the criminal community.

I know Tim Nicholls (Treasurer) fairly well, good enough bloke at his core at a one on one basis but smarmy Tory politician most of the time. Last Sunday morning I'm sitting down at a cafe with a bunch of mates having breakfast. I say mates, because they are but sadly, predominantly micro government fascists. Along rolls Tim for his morning fat ration and I'm knocked out of my chair by the surge of sychophantic nob gobblers. I left, meal untouched.

distressing times Mick...even down here we can smell the witches burning in Qld...chip sycophancy is rampant...
...ran into the former Billy premier and her partner a few weeks ago before it was announced they are moving to Spiv Central...the combo of employment opportunity and more importantly the personal invective both they and their family cop seems to have driven their move...pretty horrible for a damned able and fundamentally decent pair of human beings

I see Plebiscite has just announced $4 bill in dental spending on the great unwashed low income earners, to be found "from savings". FMD, going on a spendathon a year out. Obviously the Goose has said "Meh, fark the surplus."

$1billion in savings will come from cutting the dud scheme that Abbott introduced as Health Minister that is being rorted all over the shop.
