Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (VI)
Dear God, she's gone mad, Pt II
"JULIA Gillard has linked her Gonski schools reforms to the future of the nation's mining industry, declaring education, not immigration, will eliminate skilled labour shortages.
A day after pledging a $6.5 billion-a-year education “crusade”, the Prime Minister offered real-world justification for her as-yet unfunded Gonski changes."
---------------------------------------------
Er, didn't Der merchant Drongo Ferguson declare the Mining Boom over? So education is gonna drive up world demand and fix commodity prices, is it? Or is it yet another case of the Vulture simply having no clue?

Skully...the report on Indigenous expenditure you are quoting from is load of old Taips..
the story in the Oz today on the supposedly vast amounts spent on Indigenous education repeats the failed modelling assumptions of the nongs at the productivity Commission...the majority of the higher rates spent per Indigenous capita in schools compared to non Indig $s per non Indigen capita is explained simply by vastly different demography...median age of the Indig popln is 22 and median for rest of Oz is around 37...this means a much higher propn of the Indig popln is school age

I get infuriated when poor work (which I know to be the case because I have looked at it) fuels the prejudices of the rags and shock jocks...this piece of taips only serves to make it harder for Aboriginal people and promote red neckery

I know it's a meaningful subject to you, h, and there was no intention on my part to denigrate the Indigenous folk in any way. More aimed at the pathetic welfare mindset of the Pinkos.
And it seems the "rich", yes that includes me + the Chief, as combined middle income earners, are gonna be hammered to fund the Vulture's Education Ambition. Thievin' Qunts.
Let the Election be tomorrow and I'll bring my baseball bat.

agree the ridiculous ranga has pulled the wrong rein on Gonski...
our school system is crazy with no similar international model
for decades the feds who have zero implementation responsibility have been mucking around in edn policy...the only winners are elite private schools and the upper mid class whose edn choices are subsidised and the proponents of chaos theory
re the absurd Productivity Commission Report on Indigenous Expenditure let me assure you that no more is spent on Indigenous school kids than others in the same classroom...it is not welfarism but fatuous modelling from enumerates

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (VI)
Odd story brings discredit on the Libs, Nats and ALP - sale of Cubby station -story from ABC online
A major stoush is brewing within the federal Coalition, with the Nationals preparing to formally oppose the sale of a Queensland cotton farm to Chinese and Japanese interests.
National Party MPs and senators held a phone hook-up on Tuesday afternoon, furious at comments made by Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey that they were "freelancing" on the issue of Cubbie Station.
Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce described the move as a "farce" and vowed to campaign against the sale.
Earlier, Mr Hockey said the National MPs opposing the sale did "not speak for the Coalition and they don't even speak for the National Party or the Liberal Party".
NSW Nationals Senator Fiona Nash told the ABC in response: "Clearly Mr Hockey has no idea what is the National Party view and he has no authority to comment on what is or is not the National Party view."
Another Nationals MP told the ABC it was likely the party room would meet before shadow cabinet convenes in Canberra on Monday to formally declare their position on the sale.
Many Nationals oppose the sale because they do not believe it is in the national interest.
Nationals leader Warren Truss says Treasurer Wayne Swan "must explain why it is in the national interest for control of Australia's most valuable farm, along with its massive water rights, to be ceded to overseas owners".
Mr Swan on Friday approved the sale of Cubbie Station to Shandong RuYi Scientific & Technological Group Co Ltd and Lempriere Pty Ltd, subject to a number of undertakings.
RuYi is a textile manufacturer owned by a consortium of investors based in both China and Japan.
Cubby has been in receivership and is Oz's largest cotton producer and greatest exploiter of water...it should be shut on economic and environmental grounds...
the xenophobic banjo bumpkins led by Barnaby, fatuous Libs (Shockey) deahead alp (swan) let alone Crusty Can Do all get an F- on this issue

If it was that good an asset it would have been sold years ago. When the next drought hits (which will be sooner rather than later as La Nina takes over next year) the Chinese will be looking to flog it off at any price.
The Nationals have always been a socialist party. It's just that they want to limit their socialism to the bush.
Having said that, the Libs are confused too. Abbott recently said he wanted to limit Chinese investment into Australia.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (VI)
Cubby is a lemon on every count...from memory they pay around $100k pa in water rights, yet their dam has 5 times the capacity of Sydney Harbour....it also employs few people and just props up the hideous hamlet of Dalby - one of the top 10 oversubsidised bumpkin towns that deserve to go to the wall..Ironically the downstream impacts on other farmers in NSW are devestating...the ALP is almost as craven as th banjos and the shockey-ites...of course the greens are stuck yapping at the heels of history

The scary thing is, Barnaby will be the Deputy Prime Minister in just over 12 months.

Can Do continues to single handedly keep the Federal ALP in with a shout at the next election.
And Joe Hockey helps it all by praising Can Do's "courage".
Not that I disagree with cutting staff from the public service but the federal Libs need to be careful about it all.

I voted Abbott's sister last on the Mosman council elections.
I think he other sister - the less - got on to Sydney City council though.
