Ambrose and Cousins on depression
Tim, not Curtley. Interesting read, both.
Ambrose
Cousins
Been exactly in Ambrose's spot and can relate with that, but Cousins must've had it hard.

Aye t, it's an insidious thing. I too have been in your spot, and my charismatic middle brother (those on the forum will know him as THAT brother) is currently battling suicidal thoughts and the "I can't get out of bed" mentality.
It's a hateful thing. I have recently made career choices to get my own black dog under control. It's fair to say that 18 months ago my behaviour on this forum showed the depths I had sunk to. A few of our colleagues on here have also battled or are battling the demons.

Ben Cousins may have had or still have depression, but imo that doesn't excuse him taking illegal drugs habitually, causing public disorder, and acting like a twat.

True, but in this case, it was Darren Cousins.

I'm not surprised about Darren. He had to play for Northants. Soul destroying stuff.
Re: Ambrose and Cousins on depression
I think i've mentioned before my own battle with the black dog. Certainly not something to be taken lightly.
Re: Ambrose and Cousins on depression
Aye, remember reading that. Guess Ambrose had a supportive lot next to him. The worst thing from a personal point of view was the lack of it.

Overall, yeah. We're a sinking ship with absolutely no hope at all.
As for the cricketers, it's alarming that more and more are coming out of the woodwork - it's a sad state of affairs. I can't fathom exactly why they'd be more prone to it, but increasingly it seems they are. Maybe it's being on the road a lot of the time
Re: Ambrose and Cousins on depression
It's something of a unique sport in that it's a team game where individuals can be very isolated. Unlike say any football or rugby code, it's hard to directly influence team-mates' performances and what you do as an individual is always in the spotlight. In football, perhaps only a goalkeeper is so exposed.
Add to that the constant treadmill of the county schedule during the summer, and winters spent either touring, if you're an international, or finding something else to do with yourself if you're not, and it must be a strange sort of lifestyle and equally difficult to adjust to something else when it finishes.
