Aye.. Papps and Redmond are always on top in the Plunket Shield though aren't they? And Jay Meoaw. But none have shown the requisite class at Test level - maybe Redmond out of the three.
Guptill needs a score here - it can't go on too much more like this - even NZ will start to get pissed off soon.

Looks a half-decent side, but considering Vettori's decline the bowling could be a little light. He's not the same bowler he was 10 years ago. Hamish Rutherford (Ken's son) is considered to be the most talented young opening batsman in NZ. A real goer against the new ball. But not all that consistent. I reckon they should take a punt on him as someone who could be a match winner.
Luke Ronchi is qualified to play for NZ already, and has been in very good form in first class cricket. He could get a gig as the keeper, and they might consider opening with Watling, ahead of McCullum even, who imo isn't pulling his weight these days. I've long suspected that he's had his eyes fixed a bit too firmly on T20 $$$. I could be wrong, though.
Adam Milne is another very promising young bowler- The fastest in NZ. He clocked 153kph as an 18 year old. Of course, he's struggled with injuries. It's not as if there's no talent there. I just think the selectors are too scared to give more youngsters a go. They keep picking proven failures like Franklin and Fulton.
Aye, did think of Ronchi - Watling's keeping is OK - I just don't think he's a #6. But down the order he may be alright. But yeah, Ronchi is the better batsman.
Sort of picked Carl Cachopo over Craig because he can bowl a bit, they reckon - seen him though, he's medium pace, which may do OK in NZ but I'm not sure so it would do abroad.
Thought of Adam Milne, but remembered he got Trevved two years back. Keep checking the news because I think he's going to turn up dead sometime soon.

Yeah, always seemed out of his depths in the tests, why I mentioned him, tbh.Brass Monkey wrote:tricycle wrote:Michael Pap smear

Guptill's always been this anointed test star, but his record apart from tests is also not that flash.

What's the betting they get at least a draw out of the Pom-Poms?

We'll make hard work of them, just as we did last time out there. Remember that Southee onslaught with the bat, as Jimmy employed stupid tactics of bowling bouncers at Chris Martin at the other end. Really looked like a partnership featuring the world's worst batsman was going to win it for them, for a moment!PeterCS wrote:skully wrote:Aye, I think the Bangers would give 'em a run right now. The Tendulkar of 10 years ago I guess... the current version is very much in Jay Meow's class.Henry wrote:Basil wrote:A pair for Flynn - he makes Jamie How look like Tendulkar.

His first test was poor, but then all bowlers were poor there. Thought his second innings in Adelaide was rather good.

he was useful...but no more than that ...anyway we can agree to disagree...I think the bowling - saffies in Perth aside - from both teams was just so so...Snorkel was better than i thought he would be and Steyn was disappointing by his lofty standards in the first two tests...Siddle - an honest toiler at best - was our best bowler...patto was ok until injured...Hilf was woeful

Fair enough. Also, can NZ get to within 200 of South Africa's total?
