His keeping was good. His batting was tail-ender-y.
It was obvious to everyone that Duncan Fletcher (and cricket since the 90s) wanted a keeper who could bat six or seven and score hundreds, yet Marsh wouldn't have it that Read was anything other than the man for the job.
Although it's sort of the opposite way around with Wade, in that his glovework is a sick joke (and I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed somewhere down the line that he had at least one wooden hand), if Marsh has tied his flag to him, he'll stand his ground to the bitter end.

He should burn his bg and focus on the plinky plonky stuff his body can handleRed wrote:JGK wrote:skully wrote:Nice stat (interesting given the number of legends in the team - Trumper, Gregory, Hill, Armstrong, McCartney). Summarises nicely the complete shit state our team is in. If there's no action i.e. dump Warner, Watson, Hughes, Wade, Maxwell and Midge, then I might have to become a full time political commentator. At least I'll have some uplifting shit to talk about.
By the way, I will be on the Ashes tour in the lead up to the election (assuming it is still on 14 Sep) so am going to miss a lot of the fun here. I should be able to post from time to time but not in the Aust timezone.
Remember to pack your boots in case things get really grim. They're throwing around baggygreens like candy anyway.
Noticed that Watto seemed to be hinting he might bowl again in a desperate bid to push his credentials as an all-rounder.

OP Tipping wrote:Clarke 6/10. Earned his lunch money with the bat, captaincy was sometimes a bit baffling.
Pattinson 6/10. Three matches only. One of the few rays of light in this series.
Maxwell 5/10. Two matches only. Did enough.
Lyon 5/10. Had a good match out of three.
Cowan 5/10. Takes the responsibilities of opening seriously but often enough fails.
Smith 5/10. Two matches only. Did enough.
Siddle 5/10. Did enough.
Starc 4/10. His much needed (but ultimately futile) 99 brought a smile but we need some reliable bowlers, sorry.
Warner 4/10. Maybe better suited to the abbreviated forms of the game.
Henriques 4/10. Three matches only. Reasonable results with the bat but ordinary with the ball, most of the time did not appear to be in the same planet as taking a wicket.
Wade 4/10. 3 matches only. The keeping was not spectacular, batting results subpar.
Doherty 3/10. Two matches only. Was not effective.
Hughes 2/10. Should be made to walk home.
Watson 2/10. 3 matches only. What can you say? Shit captaincy, did nothing with the bat, got out in careless or cavalier fashion, and of course no bowling. As good as a man short.
Johnson 1/10. 1 match only. Probably unfair to be judging him so harshly on one match but (shrugs) didn't seem at his best.
.
How did my points compare to those by Brydon Coverdale on cricinfo?
Clarke 8
Smith 6.5
Siddle 6.5
Cowan 6
Pattinson 6
Lyon 6
Henriques 5
Starc 5
Haddin 4.5
Warner 4
Maxwell 4
Hughes 3.5
Wade 3.5
Watson 2
Doherty 2
Johnson 0
Broadly similar, except that he was more generous than me with the points generally.
I rated Maxwell higher.

koo's points stemmed from his bat...his bowling was poor
maxwell led the averages in bowling...reeks had 2 good knocks and 4 failures plus was useless with the ball...both too generous
coverdale was too generous with the rating of warner and a bit niggardly with the wade rating...played with a cracked cheekbone and gutsed out a half ton...haddin was disappointing with bat and gloves in his one match tho should have played the 4th as wade had not fully recovered from injury

Arthur had a press conference and was asked if there was in positives in the batting. The only names he mentioned were Siddle, Starc and Pattinson

I wonder if playing Jadeja over SRT would have helped India better against England last series at home. How he and selectors hope he can score big in SA on difficult wickets against Dale Steyn & co when he has been absolute rubbish at home against weaker bowlings at home is a huge mystery!

He played against England in Nagpur and didn't do all that much on a deader than dead pitch. Also, he's done nothing with the bat yet.
7 or 8 players didn't perform up to the expected in that series. The bowling was very poor and the batting often too. Replacing just Tendulkar would not have helped in that series, especially with Jadeja (for those that Jadeja didn't play).
