It's going to be tight but i think United will edge it, their defence is immaculate atm and Ronnie looks like eclipsing his efforts of last season.

Even though Arsenals second team are playing tonight they will still beat Spurs, it's impossible for them to win against Arsenal.
I do watch the Scum Mak ... often.
I have a brother and 3 nephew "Scums" who keep me on my toes Wink

I can somehow tolerate the frenchie ... just ... but the Jock's moans
(if and when he graces us with a post match interview - which is seldom - why? I wonder) do grate enormously.

My dislike of the Jock stems from his defence of the Roy Carroll no-goal (against Fulham) when the keeper pulled the ball out from 2 feet inside his own net thus depriving Fulham of the winning goal.
"The referee's there to do his job" - was his take on the cheat's action ... yet, when a Scummer gets red carded ..
lo and behold, "the Referee is a right twat/blind/fatherless etc etc".

Aye, hope the second Gooners do Spurs ... 3-0 will suffice.

It was against Spurs Smile

Martins might be worth keeping alongside a decent centre forward. Would help him if he didn't get everything launched at him from some lumbering defender in the air

Yeah agree with you mate, this has been Newcastles problem over the years when something goes wrong just sack the manager.

It wasn't like they were in the relegation zone. They are 11th. Mid table is the best they can hope for with the injuries and squad they have. Fergie was at United for 5 years (was it?) before he won anything.

They've only got a couple of players worth a damn.

If I were given the job (and my odds have shortened since yesterday), I'd keep Given, Taylor, N'Zogbia and Milner.

The rest can fook off.

So that's three new defenders, two central midfielders and a couple of strikers needed. At least.

And we'd still finish outside the top-four. Because we're Newcastle, not someone else with a history of competing for serious honours.

Get real.

Huh? What do you mean get real? You've just agreed with me.

It was more of a general "Get real" to all the deluded Newcastle fans out there who consider them the dictionary definition of a big club.

I know it's a bit of a shock - and it takes some getting used to - to read a response on this forum which isn't a personal attack on the previous poster, but it's just something new I'm trying out...

Quite.

Even Ipswich and Derby County have won major honours more recently than them.
I actually went to St James Park on a wet night in 1991 for a (then) 2nd division game and the attendance was a little over 11,000

Owen: Money for nothing. He's finished as a footballer. Hasn't had a proper run of full fitness in years. Even if he were to somehow get and stay fit, he doesn't want to stay at Newcastle.

Geremi: Bit of a journeyman footballer. Only ever any good for one season at Boro. Handy squad player, I suppose, as he's quite versatile.

Martins: Unconvinced.

Emre: Always seems to be on the cusp of leaving. Has quality, but I don't think he's able to cut it in the Premier League.

Jose Enrique: Early days, signs aren't promising. Although, clearly, he's not as bad as Celestine Babayaro or Olivier Bernard.

Not sure if this deserves a separate thread but wondering what your greatest Premiership XI would be? Saw an article on this recently and disagreed with a lot of their choices. FWIW I would have:

GK Schmeichel
RB G.Neville
CB Adams
CB Pallister
LB Irwin

RM Pires
CM Keane(c)
CM Scholes
LM Giggs

CF Henry
CF Shearer

Subs:
Seaman
Campbell
Bergkamp
Cantona
Beckham
Vieira

I think there are a few certainties: Schmeichel, Giggs, Keane and Henry. You could probably make a case for valid alternatives in the other positions. Wanted to put Vieira who was a better player than Scholes IMO, but a Keane-Scholes partnership has better balance. Furthermore I think Vieira > Keane at their respective peaks, but overall Keane achieved more and was a greater leader. You could make a case of Beckham over Pires (therefore having the ManU quartet from 99), but I think Pires just edges it (more goals). Give it a few more years and I think Ronaldo will make the RM spot his own. As an out and out goalscorer I think few can match RVN at his peak, but Shearer's longevity should seal his place in the side.

Others who were worthy of mention:

RVN
Le Tissier
Martyn
Yorke
Fowler
Stam
Bruce
Zola
Cahill(!)

I like your Pires pick. Massively underrated. I like a lot of what you've said in this post to be honest, especially the Viera > Keane at Viera's peak. Who are/were you? Are you an Aussie? OP? Or are you new?

I'm not sure Henry and Shearer would work together. And I don't think you can compare Viera and Scholes. Scholesy was sexual healing at his peak, though I think Lampard would be pushing for a place in the side now. I wouldn't have that defence either.

And yes, this definitely deserves a thread of its own.

Has to be Henry/RVN as the two strikers, these guys won loads of trophies with their goals.

And LLL Vieira > Keane- you got be having a larf.

Watching Spurs/Arsenal - good game, looks like normal service Spurs go 1 up then lose the game in the second half.
