Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
The Australia A XI to face England is:
Moises Henriques (Captain) NSW
Glenn Maxwell (Vice-Captain) VIC
Trent Copeland NSW
Ben Cutting QLD
Alex Doolan TAS
Callum Ferguson SA
Jon Holland VIC
Usman Khawaja QLD
Michael Klinger SA
Shaun Marsh WA
Tim Paine TAS
Reeks Capt & Maxwell VC? WTF!!
Good to see Copeland finally getting a chance. Uber gets another chance based on his Ryobi ton no doubt. Bellerive has never been a happy hunting ground for him so i don't expect any career changing performances. The rest prettywell pick themselves although Holland is a bit of a smokey.

England will still be 0 down in their first innings with 5 batsman retired by the time you get there
Not a lot of wicket taking ability in that bowling attack

Fair point. I just hope Copeland can reproduce some of his county form.embee wrote:England will still be 0 down in their first innings with 5 batsman retired by the time you get there

Cook and Broad sitting out practice with "backs".

It is an unbelievably soft top 7.Nath wrote:expecting us to get rolled for sub-250
Remember the days when Hayden, Langer, Martyn, Law, Elliot and Bevan were the Aust A batting line up?

Yep, those were the days when our reserves were so strong that players who would have romped in a test place in this era fell by the wayside.JGK wrote:It is an unbelievably soft top 7.Nath wrote:expecting us to get rolled for sub-250

Bit surprised Joe Burns isn't in there (injured?), but looks a fair Reserve XI.

I'm not specially "barracking for" Burns (as you funny Aussies might say) - just that he is talked about quite a lot as a potential Test bat for the near future - hence I'd have thought he'd be given a further chance to show what he could do against these tourists.

I hope Ballance gets another chance. It would be harsh on him if his tour ends up consisting of one golden duck.

Yeah, he deserves the opportunity to get two golden ducks.Henry wrote:I hope Ballance gets another chance. It would be harsh on him if his tour ends up consisting of one golden duck.
Given the side they picked for game one, it seems like Ballance (who batted five) and Carbs are the contenders for the on vacant spot, with Stokes (who batted below Prior) and Bairstow (who didn't play) not really in the mix.
Carbs would be the steady pick at six. Plenty of experience, good all round player. Warnie think he should open and Root should play at six. Makes some sense - baby face looks a bit of a walking wicket against the new ball at the minute.
Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
Carberry's looked a bit skittish in international cricket so far. I don't think it's guaranteed that he'll be a "safe" pick. He's also Hampshire, which makes any Warne comments about him irrelevant.
I'd persist with Root at the top of the order. We did with Cook, and it eventually paid dividends.

re: golden ducks.
Then he'd really start to get his ducks in a row for the Ashes.
But truthfully, you're just bitter now, after him letting your fantastic predictions down in public and all.

If I were going to choose, I'd go for the nephew at 6 (where he's had consistent success) and Carbs up top. But, that's me. They seem to like Joey Backfoot opening, regardless of failure percentages.

To be fair to Ballance, he'd have been a missionary, or some equivalent charity type, if he'd played for Zimbabwe.
Then again, religion's where the money is nowadays.
