Seriously? Good signing even though you'll miss the lower order runs.Brass Monkey wrote:We've got Jackson Bird.MoH wrote:There goes Northants's chances of getting Copeland back for next season.

@Dan
Racial? - Musical.
Like, if I said, hurry up and grab Yorks' coach to work with your new seamer - cos then you'd have a crackin' Bebop horn frontline (= Bird and Diz), ....
you'd be the lad to hop up with anti-aboriginal, anti-Aussie, phallocentric sexist, anti-Yorkshire, anti-Fayed, anti-Disney too, I suppose.

Aye, a good signing - 10 Championship matches and 7 T20s.MoH wrote:

We'll miss the lower order runs, but then our top 5 should've scored more runs anyway!!

Art thou anything?
Art thou some god, some angel, or some devil,
That makest my blood cold, and my hair to stare?
Speak to me what thou art!
(Ghost of Monkey:) Thy evil spirit, PeterCS.
Why comest thou?
(Ghost of Monkey:) To tell thee thou shalt see me at Lord's.
Well, then I shall see thee again?
(Ghost of Monkey:) Aye. With swords. At Lord's.

Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
Much thanks to the Aussie selectors who, in preference to fielding an attack which might have punched a hole or two in our batting and left the selectors no wiser as to the make-up of the top six, fielded a bowling attack who would not have looked out of place in Div 2 of the championship.

Cook & Carberry need another 6 runs to beat the highest opening partnership by an English pair in Australia of 323 by Jack Hobbs & Wilfred Rhodes in the 4th Test at Adelaide in February 1912. They have already beaten the record for the highest opening partnership by an English pair outside Tests which, I believe, was 295 by Arthur Fagg & Charlie Barnett for MCC v. Queensland at Brisbane in November 1936 and the highest opening partnership at the Bellerive which was 310 by Geoff Marsh & Michael Veletta for Western Australia v. Tasmania in November 1988.

Its all pretty moot as its just about to start chucking it down here.
Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
England's top order needed runs after being largely passengers in a 3-0 summer series win... we won't do the same without major contributions from the top three, in fact the Ashes will be staying Down Under if they average 25 apiece again, so this is incredibly valuable whatever the bowling and pitch. Aussie board should have sent them to play a state side on a minefield with the South African first choice Test attack signed on loan if they wanted to further undermine their confidence.
Anyway, looks like Carberry has booked his slot for the start of the Test series with Root dropping down to 6. Sticking plaster solution given his age but could give Root a couple of years to develop his game down the order as they perhaps hoped when Compton was in favour, if the experiment works out. Cook getting runs is important as well but the fact he now seems to have a dodgy back is a concern, maybe he needs to quit JAMODIs etc. if he doesn't want to be forced out of the game early.

Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
It pretty rare for England to go into an away series with four batsmen already having hundreds under their belts. If they can get Pietersen, Root and Prior in the runs (probably doesn't matter for KP as he never scores warm up runs - or first Test runs) and Tremlett in the wickets, you'd have to say their preparation has worked out swimmingly.
But there's plenty of time for it to all go tits up.

Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
I'm not sure his age is much of an issue. He's fit as a fiddle and could play another five years at least.beamer wrote:

It's all a bit strange, though. I don't believe for a minute England had any intention of playing Carberry when they picked the initial squad: he was the reserve opener; Ballance, Bairstow and Stokes would squabble over the number six spot.
Suddenly, he looks inked in for the start of the series.
Re: Aust A v England X1 - Hobart, 6-9 Nov
One poor series at that age and you're on the scrapheap though, with England selectors at least. It's not just physical fitness either, the timing and reactions go suddenly with some. Perhaps not having a decade on the international treadmill behind him will help, but I'd like to see the list of examples of players who came in at around his age and played 50 Tests.Dello wrote:I'm not sure his age is much of an issue. So rain saves Aus A? Or should that be Aus D? If this is the 2nd best XI we can put on the park, God help Australia.

Last season they were bitching because it was too bowler friendly.Bradman wrote:You've got to wonder at CA. Playing on a road with a pop gun attack.skully wrote:So rain saves Aus A? Or should that be Aus D? If this is the 2nd best XI we can put on the park, God help Australia.
