Australia v England, 5th Test, Sydney, 3-7 January, 2014
Even Nicholarse can't keep the massive disappointment out of his voice.
Commiserations to all England supporters. Very tough to watch your team folding like that.

On the plus side for England, their legspinner was moderately effective, or at least wasn’t left mentally traumatized by the experience.

281 @ 28.10
Read some posts and you would think the man is deserving of a public stoning.
The obvious problem is that the 281 was the 2nd highest aggregate for England, behind KP's 291. I hope Carbs gets another chance.
Aye. He's my favourite Englishman.

Agree. In reality they struggled pretty much against NZ not so longer ago over there so perhaps them struggling here is not totally unexpected but the nature of the defeat couldn't have been anticipated.

With no intention to gloat, does this pic sum up the England Test series?

I guess a 7 wicket in 10 over collapse was an appropriate way for the series to end.

Re: Australia v England, 5th Test, Sydney, 3-7 January, 2014
In my excitement I missed a nice touch just after the last wicket was taken. As Pup was embraced by 6 other players after he took the winning catch, Rhino ran to Point to hug Midge, Cot and Elmer. Nice stuff from the winning attack.

Bloody Poms ruined my tomorrow. Possibly the most piss-weak performance I've seen. I didn't think they could go any lower after the first four.

Would have thought day three, Jane McGrath day and possibly the final day of the test they might have got a full house. They had comfortably over 60k on day three in Melbourne.
You do realise today was sold out. That means if someone wanted to buy a ticket from the box office they could not. The only way you could get a ticket was from one of the English scalpers who were hanging around like vultures near the ground.

Don't be sorry. England have more than earned their buggering.
Re: Australia v England, 5th Test, Sydney, 3-7 January, 2014
So where does this series win rank for Australians?
For me, it is up there with 1989. In both cases they went in as underdogs & came out convincing winners.
1974/75 in a close third position.

He's from Durham. They don't have mental faculties to traumatise.

That Kookaburra make substandard equipment? Yeah, pretty much.
Re: Australia v England, 5th Test, Sydney, 3-7 January, 2014
Anyway, I'm pleased for Australia, that they got to sing the song. That seemed to be the main driving force, at least going by the post-match interviews.
They seem to have replaced their weird fetish for the "baggy green" with an unhealthy obsession with serenading their fellow team mates.
Although, having heard a snippet, it doesn't sound like singing at all. It was very shouty and tuneless.
Vanilla Ice in squinty form.

100% agree, W. As a rabid Aus supporter, I merely hoped that we'd show some fight and give a side that looked much better on paper than us (coming off a 3-0 Home Ashes win) a competitive series. My expectations were just as low as they were in 89, and my elation just as high at the fantastic performance.
If I had to split them, I'd go with 1989, because our dominance was complete with both bat and ball, by a young side that the selectors had shown continued faith and patience in. And my hero Steve Waugh had his first massive series.

I think this one might be slightly sweeter because the English side of 89 didn't have the Sprinkler dance to live up to. Watching smug bints like Jimmy and Cook mope around the field for 5 short tests is hella funny.
