There's also drones.

I'm guessing they can, but only for the floating bits with a close range.

surely that has dissipated in the 40 years since the Vietnamese defeated US (and Oz) and booted them out of Vietnam

Ofcourse, slaughter has only a history span of 20 years.
the anglo-saxon conscience is now scrubbed clean. You are free to point fingers at others now .. at the Japs & them evil Samoans, Pacific Islanders, Hawaiins and their cruel practices etc. Similarly Iraq, Libya, Syria genocide sponsored by anglo-saxons too shall pass after 20 years. A horace-let will then be able to point fingers at em cruel & discriminating turd-worlders 30 years hence.
As for the plane crash ..

Still can't find it.
This is all sounding like a bit of a publicity stunt for a new series of "Lost".

there are already 10 chinese satellites looking at the area. 40 aircraft and 34 ships
search area has been quadrupled from 50 mile radius of suspected crash site to 100 mile radius

Re: Aussies aboard missing Malaysian airliner
India should send their newly acquired naval P-3 Orions purchased with so much fanfare from USA to aid in search for the missing plane. Just because there is an election due doesn't mean the Indian govt sleepwalks to that. The P-3s can track subsea debris since it was meant to be a sub-hunter.
US satellites would have caught any signature of an explosion in air. Maybe there are govts not revealing what they know for fear of exposing their capabilities in the region. The South China Sea is one of the most highly monitored parts in the world with satellite and com ints scanning the area constantly. So highly unlikely no one knows.

for a crashed plane, surprisingly no debris.
OTH the AF447 which crashed into atlantic in 2009 had debris spread over 40 kms.

No need. We've already sent a couple of our P-3's.
