Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Had two school reunions over the weekend (first one is for the College and the second for my year)
Met the biggest breeder of thoroughbreds in WA on Friday night
Saturday at Belmont (we had our reunion there) he gave me two tips that both came in for a very nice collect
The old boy network is fantastic

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Prix de Meautry will be contested later today at Deauville over 1200m. Although only a Group Three, Prix de Meautry is one of France's premier sprints & has been won by many outstanding sprinters including Marchand d'Or, Lake Coniston, King Of Macedon, Girl Friend, Flirting Around, El Rastro, Balidar, Takawalk, Fortino, Sanguine & Midget. Celestial Dancer also won the event in 1984 before heading over to Queensland to stand at Lyndhurst Stud where he sired a number of stakeswinners such as Roulette, Celestial Choir, Heavenly Knight & Messiaen.
However, the horse whose name is most closely associated with Prix de Meautry is the aptly named (for this forum), Cricket Ball, who won the race in 1986, 1987, 1988 & 1989.
Who do you think will win 2014 Prix de Meautry?
I have a slight preference for Zejel who finished a close 4th in the Gp1 Prix Maurice de Gheest after running 2nd in Gp3 Prix de Ris-Orangis.

Maybe Ahzeemah if he comes over.
It appears they decided against coming over for the Melbourne Cup with Ahzeemah.
I might keep an eye on Tupac Amaru & Zanbagh. Both four year olds with a light weight & both were placed in classics as three year olds.

.......... and Foundry.
Tupac Amaru currently showing $51 for the Metropolitan.
He'll win that.
Honestly.
Makybe Diva's little half-sister, La Amistad, is currently favourite for the Metrop at $4-20

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Some idiot at Racing Victoria has decided their website needed changing & made an awful mess of it. The previous site (www.racingvictoria.net.au) was outstanding. It had a very professional appearance & provided just about all the information a race fan could need. The new site (www.racing.com) looks very amateurish & seems to be aimed at attracting ten year olds.
I am particularly annoyed that the form of horses no longer contains the Official Ratings for each race it contested. The Official Ratings are shown with the fields of upcoming races but not in connection with previous races. In my opinion, the Official Ratings of all runners in a field are important to understanding the class of that race.
I sent feedback to the grubs but don't know if it got through. I'm disgusted.

There is a big surprise. Lankan Rupee narrowly beaten into second place when resuming at Moonee Valley in the McEwen Stakes. Angelic Light won the race.

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Later today, the Sprint Cup will be run at Haydock over six furlongs.
The favourite is Sole Force but there are question marks regarding the distance. In 42 starts, Sole Force has won 10 races (including 4 Group Ones) but they have all been over five furlongs. His record over 6 furlongs is 7 starts for 1 second & 2 thirds. His racing pattern over five furlongs is to finish strongly from near the tail of the field so it might be surprising that he doesn't have a good record over six furlongs. However, most of his six furlong starts were early in his career & since the start of 2012, he has only had two starts over that journey for a second in the Hong Kong Sprint behind Lord Kanaloa & 5th in the July Cup, 2.75 lengths behind Lethal Force. Admittedly he was beaten 5 lengths in the Hong Kong Sprint but Lord Kanaloa is an awesome sprinter who would probably thrash anything that is racing in the Haydock Sprint Cup today.
There is also a question mark over the six furlong credentials of a number of his opponents today who are best known over the shorter trip. The second favourite is the very classy Gordon Lord Byron who won this race last year. He prefers softer ground than he will get today but should still perform well.
Who do you think will win?

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
The Haydock Sprint Cup was won by the three year old G Force who defeated Gordon Lord Byron & Music Master. Sole Force finished 4th after experiencing difficulty securing a clear run. However, when he finally did get clear, Sole Force probably didn't hit the line quite as hard as he does over five furlongs. So there is still a bit of a question mark over his credentials over six furlongs which he will strike if he has another crack at the Hong Kong Sprint in December as planned.
The big news in recent days is probably the defeat of Arc favourite, Sea The Moon, when resuming in the Gp1 Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany. He finished second to Ivanhowe. However, prior to the race, it had been revealed that he had a minor setback & might not be at his peak for the race.

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Today sees the running of the Doncaster Cup over 18 furlongs. The favourite is the Queen's headline-making mare, Estimate. She is full of the best drugs British taxpayers can buy & is expected to run a huge race.
The main danger is probably Times Up who won the Doncaster Cup in 2012 & 2013. He normally takes a few runs to find his best form & should be at his peak for this.

I'm still backing Sea The Moon in the Arc, WW.
I too believe that he wasn't at his peak for the Grosser Preis.
In other news, Cumani's Silk Sari is one to note for distance races next season.
She sluiced in by 5 lengths at Sunny Donny yesterday in the Gp2 Park Hill Stakes over 1m6f at a cosy 8/1.

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
OMG. They just held the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes for two year olds at Doncaster. Cotai Glory was two and half lengths clear of the field when the saddle slipped & his jockey, George Baker, fell to the turf only about 15 metres before the winning post.
I have heard of jockeys jumping off as they approached the winning post when they weren't supposed to win but this appeared to simply be a gear malfunction. George looked as though he was okay although he will be angry that he missed out on his percentage for a winning ride in a stakes race.

Yeah, saw that! Ouch with a bump!! 10 pct of approx. £40K bites the dust!
Unlucky ... the saddler a/o the horse's groom is going to have his balls chewed up and spat out
for not making sure the leathers were okay (if indeed they split).... as are the stalls handlers for not ensuring
that the girth was tightened enough pre-race !
