Boateng went down like a giant redwood. You could almost hear the shout of timberrrr.
Some say he's still untangling his legs now.

Joey Barton claims to be "closer in ability to Neymar than Neymar is to Messi".
Well, I suppose a batsman averaging 20 can say he's closer to Tendulkar than Tendulkar is to Bradman...

Come on Sheikh Mansour, Roman Abramovich or the Glazer debt fund, get him over here whatever it takes. Even if you have to split the cost and have him for a third of the season each.

He's a decent human being who grow up in Liverpool, supported Liverpool, played for Liverpool and loves the city and team he grow up in and always gave all he could to his country too. Why should we not give him some sort of appreciation????????

Ah!
Like John Terry and Frank Lampard and Matt Le Tissier only with the fuss blown up out of all proportion?
Gerrard is one of the most cynical hackers of the modern game.
Kinda like the old Chopper Harris of Chelsea (at least Chopper later admitted to fouling the man 90 % of the time!).
Take the man first and if the ball happens to touch his foot whilst he's "tackling", then all well and good ....
Good ol' Steven Gerrard.

Anyone else willing Newcastle Utd to lose next week and for Hull to beat Man u to send the Magpies down. Honestly, they have been stinking the Prem out for years. They would not be missed.

It's worse than when Diana died.
No-one gave much of a shit when Paul Scholes - by far the superior English midfielder of his generation - retired. Nor Lampard, when he semi-retired.
I can only assume that, with the title race being done and dusted a month ago, the top four decided a few weeks ago and bugger all else to talk about football-wise with the English teams having been knocked out of the Champions League by February, the Gerrard "narrative" is the only thing left the media can overhype to keep their beloved sport all over the back pages.
But it's somehow fitting that today's game was all about Steven Gerrard, to hell with the rest of the team. That's pretty much his career in a nutshell.
Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
Yeah, Mike Cashley couldn't give a fark about football and just wants to use the club as a giant Sports Direct billboard... he deserves to do so against the likes of Rotherham in a half empty stadium with the Sky cameras deployed elsewhere.Basil wrote:Anyone else willing Newcastle Utd to lose next week and for Hull to beat Man u to send the Magpies down. Back in 2009, the final relegation place was decided between Hull, Newcastle and Sunderland on the last day, with Hull taking on Man Utd... Newcastle went down. Will history repeat itself? Although Hull didn't actually need a result on that occasion as it turned out.

Only pretty much everyone. I think even some Newcastle supporters would be up for that outcome too.
Then again, I wouldn't mind if Sunderland went down over everyone else as they're a shocking team. Unwatchable. Have been for years.
Must be something in the water up there in the North East, rotting everyone from the inside out.

It's likely that one of them will be replaced with Boro.

All the three contenders for the remaining place deserve to go, as did Villa and Leicester for three quarters of the season. The bar's set pretty low for staying in the Premier League these days, which at least offers hope to those coming up.

Hella funny at the A League championship presentation. Multi-billionaire Frank Lowy falls off the stage (he was OK by the way):
There is a gif file but I don't know how to post it here.

It was a pretty important play though. The little touch put the attacker off.
The commentator did point out at the time that it was only a few inches away from being the first subterranean header in the Premier League.

Sterling set to request a move from Liverpool. No, he's not a "money grabbing 20-year-old" to use his own quote. As I think he's 21 now.
I hope he enjoys a couple of years of rotting in the reserves at Real then eventually coming back over here to join West Ham, Villa or Newcastle...

I'll grant you he's good - but he ain't THAT good as to command £150k a week wages.
The whole football scenario is going to sh*t with transfer fees and wages sky-rocketing.
And it all stems from the Spanish La Liga clubs - well, at least 2 of them.
Even talk now of Bale bailing out (pardon the pun) of Real Madrid and possibly coming to the Scum for 85 million.
Crazy crazy money ...
