its attitude that sets him apart as much as anything else. hes aware of the game position but doesnt let it affect him any more than absolutely necessary. each ball played on its merits and if you ****** up one shot just put that aside and see what the bowler tries nextskully wrote:That's a classy One Fitty by Tweak.
its an easy thing to tell people to do but hard to pull off when youre out there

Great partnership of 100, then a massive blow over midwicket by Rhino.

Then Rhino does a Twatto.
But well played man, to make his highest Test score.

It won't happen, because he'll never get the opportunity ... but he looks that good.
I suspect that's as close as he'll ever get. He joins a long list of Aussie bowlers with a top score in the 70's ... Lawson, Lillee, Fleming, Reiffel, Jenner, Walker, Hoggggyyy. O'Keeffe, Taylor and Hughes went closer, and Warnie went closest of all.

Johnson goes cheaply one day on a decent track there's no reason he can't.

Do South Africa not exist on planet Red?
Yes, and generally they are pretty good but there were periods over a decade ago when every test team bar the Bangles had quality quicks. There was a time when Pakistan had a couple of incredible bowlers, NZ had a gun, England had quality pacemen, the Windies were fearsome and even India had Dev. Now a patient batsman with a remotely decent technique can't but help make runs. Of course flat decks don't help the bowlers either and bigger bats have become a factor. Tailenders have indisputably improved but it is hard to imagine the great bowlers of yore allowing them to make merry the way they do today.

Of course it's interesting that very few bowlers average below the late twenties these days and it's not uncommon to see an attack where they all average in the thirties.
Of course batsmen averaging in the fifties is much more common too. Smith is now pushing fifty-two.
