Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
The MM's greatest gifts to public life in Oz are stfu and getting out of politics. But sadly he and the other rightie men in the moon are still in full snipe mode.
the current brawl is about narrowing the alleged broad church in the libs with some Lib strategists taking a long term view that it is better for Turncoat to lose the next election

Julia Gillard was an awful PM, but you have to respect how she's quietly got on with her life after being ousted by Rudd in 2013. None of the drama queen antics of Rudd in 2010 or Abbott these last few weeks.

The first public statement by the new Social Services Minister. This is going to go well:
Carer, disability and family payments in sights of new Social Services Minister Christian Porter
October 14, 2015 - 3:28PM
Social Services Minister Christian Porter is on the hunt for savings in his new portfolio, hinting spending cuts on carer and disability payments may be needed to get the budget back to surplus.
In comments that echo his predecessor, Scott Morrison, Mr Porter said on Tuesday night that his portfolio "has to be a contributor to slowing the growth of expenditure down".
Noting that the Department of Social Services spent $137 billion last year - about a third of the federal budget - Mr Porter warned that welfare was growing faster than any "other single budget [area] in government".

Nice sledge from Albo in QT today in reponse to the government bigging itself up on infrastructure:
"The only hole they've dug is the one they buried the former prime minister in."

Typical Labour- Trying to make out that a Prime Minister with money is somehow not to be trusted/relied upon/out of touch with "average Australians"
Any person as rich as Turnbull would be a fool to not take some of that money offshore.

Funny, I didn't hear them peddling that line when Rudd was in charge.
However, it's always an effective line when peddled effectively, and one of the reasons why I believe Turnbull will never win an election.

of course the Turncoat led Libs will bolt in the next election...but you are right about the line being peddled. People have short memories. I expect the Rudds could buy and sell Turncoat several times.

On the other hand there are people who claim that Turnbull is a genius who understands the economy because he worked for Goldmans.
FFS I work at a top Euro investment bank and let me assure you the egos that run the place have no idea.

Lardy,
In all seriousness Turnbull will be PM for another two terms. He will win and win well.

To be fair, Turnbull is one of Australia's most accomplished polymaths. He isn't a typical investment banker (who are generally one trick ponies).

You may be right; if so, I will eat my words. I think Shorten will be rolled within 6 months, and Albanese, 'popular politician in touch with the common man', will easily roll Turnbull, 'spoiled rich investment banker'.

provided the lunar right gargoyles on the back bench stop leaking and undermining Turncoat will have a dream run...Unforch the only way the ALP could ditch Shorten under the new rules is if he chose to resign.
Looks like Smokin will be gifted the ambassador job in Washington which is one fly removed from the ointment...the MM and Andrews will be harder to extricate...The MM will stay and Andrews would only be satisfied with being made Pope.
The big issue is whether Lib angst will translate into pre-selection brawls

In what sense, qmy?
I have never had any personal dealings with Turnbull, but have never liked him, he seems a smarmy and untrustworthy git, and one excessively impressed with himself.
I did have some dealings with Rudd and more particularly one of his minions, 15 - 20 years ago now, and he is a deeply unpleasant and malicious individual unafraid to kick heads and accustomed to systematic bullying. I pity his family.
