Huh. Madness. Like catching practice. Cook must be thanking his favourite sky magician

That Chunderball lad's never going to make it at this level... clearly can't stick around when the situation demands it!

Bradman was close. 96 days on one side and 8 on the other.

That chance was third generation inbred simple. Still, what can we expect? He's a half centurion in drop. He's in the side for his many other qualities - we can't expect him to be perfect
Re: West Indies v England, 2nd Test, Grenada, 21-25 April, 2015
He's becoming a bit like the late 90s Taylor. Just minus the slip catching and tactical acumen. Well, nothing....
Brilliant player when in form. It's a bit desperate atm though.

Wow, dropped catches everywhere but the Ganjas still manage to be in deep shit. Some of the shots to get out to where 5th Grade stuff.

Come on, Marlon, keep in there.
Need to have words with Root, being a reet little gobshite for no reason, I do hope he wasn't brought up to do that.

True.
Frank Woolley, 22 to 47.

Playing into 40s, occasionally, even in Tests was not unheard-of in those days. Bet there are at least a couple more.

He was nearly King of Albania, so close! (but not really, was one of Carlo's exaggerations. He was interviewed.)
Bizarre and amazing character though - even without rahat lokoum or a chocolate ear.

Gosh, that was pretty grim.
England will score 600 on this deck. But it'll take them two weeks.

So, in other words, he only played in his 20s and 30s. Just like, say, two-Test wonders such as James Tredwell...taipan wrote:beamer wrote:Just trying to work out how many others have played Test cricket in their teens, 20s, 30s and 40s. I reckon it's just him, Tendulkar and Brian Close.

Surely Holder has to bat further up the order.

That's overegging The Punk, I think. There is clearly still naivety in the words in Fry's Autobiography (have you read it? - a weird read, "Life Worth Living"), esp before he actually went and saw the scrawny little q*nt and his remote-controlled shifty ways, Fry was enthusiastic about the changes apparently wrought in Deutschland. Then he comes across as a bit bemused, unsure what to make of what he saw. But to accuse him of Fuehrer admiration is unfair.
Even Eric 'Winkle' Brown was rather attracted by the idea of a (self-)disciplined dutiful young-spirited country with fresh positivity too. Until he saw it first-hand.
It was a not uncommon reaction (esp. in 1933-1937or8), particularly on the part of those inclined to be sick/tired of cynical, mean-spirited, class-riddled (ha!) and slightly corrupt routines 'back home', to look with some envy over to this new Germany.
At that stage the true story of fascist government, its mentality, its impacts on everyday life even of its most loyal followers - and the thuggish, manipulative ways the NSDAP got there in the first place - was little known. Once the threats to other countries turned into invasions, annexations, Blitzkrieg and the rest of it, with newsreel of Goebbels and the rest of the mendacious henchmen from top to bottom of National Socialist rule, and Kritallnacht for those who were not bleached anti-semitic fanatics, things started to take a different shape even for many remaining starry-eyed fascistophiles. Hard nuts such as Mosley and his League of British Fascist Qunts quite apart, of course.
And then only later the revelations of the systematic screaming horror of the extermination camps, the accounts of the extent of the fell predations of Gestapo, SS, etc etc. ..... previously largely quelled by the Nazis.

Aye, his flame burnt brightly but briefly.
Hence brightly fades the Don.

Yeah? Do you think, maybe, the WI will try and bowl at those woodeny type things that the batsmen are trying to defend? Maybe not so many powderpuff half-trackers?

Saw the Cook dropped catch; pretty fumbling attempt. Is he vying for one of England's worst slippers ever?

As previously mentioned, he's dropped over 50 catches. Whilst we don't have the stats for any other player, we can safely assume that he is one of the biggest piles of dogshit to ever have a regular position behind the wicket. If he had any semblance of self-awareness / humility / intellect he would hide himself at mid off.
Re: West Indies v England, 2nd Test, Grenada, 21-25 April, 2015
Apparently in Anderson's first seven over spell, only THREE deliveries would have hit the stumps.
