Gary Kirsten was one of the best-ever allrounders, but COACH ?????????????..........Have you ever heard of Darrel Lehmann???Neither England or South Africa could afford him.HE IS UNQUESTIONABLY THE BEST IN THE WORLD,just look what he did with the worst Australian team that I can remember and turned it into the current best team in the world.
I don't think any of us have heard of Darrel Lehmann, we have heard of Darren Lehmann though...

Trevor Bayliss? I'm sort of underwhelmed. What's he been doing, winning a couple of T20 tournaments? Whoop

Be fair to Trevor - he invented the wind-up radio. That's been a massive invention for people in remote Africa to stay in touch with the world.
Don't think many other coaches have made their mark on the world in that vein.

I suspect they felt Gillespie's heart wasn't 100% in it with all the travel, time away from home, and conditions (i.e. no KP) imposed by the ECB.

I just think Farbrace recommended Bayliss. He's been Bayliss' assistant during his time with Sri Lanka.

Re: So, England's next coach then
The Sky boys reckon Bayliss was runner-up last time to Moores.
They claim he interviewed well...in fact better than Moores but the selection panel wanted an English coach.
So Moores got a 2nd go purely on the basis that he was English, no sorry 'the best coach of his generation', no wait, a coach with 'limited tactical ability'. I'm confused.
The good thing is it's the same selection panel who have picked him this time. They have a very good track record in picking a coach for the right reasons. So we have no cause for concern whatsoever.

Bayliss also worked at Sri Lanka alongside current England caretaker coach Paul Fabrace, and Strauss may see pair's familiarity as a way to help bridge the England dressing room between the old guard and his new regime. With nine NSW players in Australia's Ashes squad, including young tyros Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, Bayliss could be the perfect architect to plot the tourists' downfall this winter. The prospect of coaching the Old Enemy has been on the former wicketkeeper's mind since last year. "I am interested in hearing more about the job," Bayliss told The Telegraph newspaper in the UK in April 2014. "I am happy doing the jobs I have got at the moment but when it comes to a position like that (England) I would be silly not to find out what they have to say and finding out a bit more about it.

Re: So, England's next coach then
Bloody hell another wicky. Never mind the BCCI being the most powerful entity in world cricket - I think wickies are the real 'grey men' of cricket, operating like some secret organisation akin to the Carlyle Group or the Skull and Bones Yale club or whatever it is.
Anyway, I already feel for him if he walks in after (and if) we have beaten NZ in 2nd test.
Media will be cumming buckets over Cookie and co. Heralding England as world beaters and chest beating in advance of Oz arrival.
Then Bayliss arrives, we get thumped by you Aussies, he gets slagged by the media, Straussy plunges the knife into him by saying he never understood or bought into the trust culture and was a limited tactician/borderline idiot. And back to Oz with his tail between his legs.
Well, either that or he does OK and moves England forward a little bit at a time and we all like him because he's probably a thoroughly decent bloke.

Re: So, England's next coach then
No evidence of him being a keeper as far as I can tell... batsman who bowled occasional off-spin and was an outstanding cover fielder, apparently.
Maybe he just had to pretend to have worn the gloves to get an interview...
