Re: Rugby League 2016
Is Dessy leaving the Dogs?
"Coach Des Hasler's future at Canterbury will reportedly come under the microscope at a special board meeting scheduled by the NRL club on Friday.
Hasler is contracted until the end of 2017, but the Bulldogs are believed to be weighing up his position following a disappointing end to the season.
The Bulldogs lost their last four games of the year, including a heavy elimination defeat to Penrith in week one of the finals.
"There is going to be a board meeting on Friday and that is the main purpose of the meeting, to discuss Des Hasler's contract extension," Canterbury boss Raelene Castle told News Corp Australia."
-------------------------------------------------
Lots of media talk that the "must finish in the top 4" clause proposal is getting a well and truly get farked from Des's management.
I can't believe he'd walk out at this stage.

Did I ever mention that Dessy taught me for a few weeks in the early 80s when he was a student teacher?

Re: Rugby League 2016
A powerful Dog may have sealed Dessy's fate
"An emotional Steve Mortimer has vowed to walk away from his position on the Bulldogs’ board if Des Hasler is handed a new two-year contract extension at Friday’s emergency meeting.
...
While many fans and rugby league experts are struggling to comprehend how Hasler could be fighting to save his future after taking the Bulldogs to two grand finals in his five years at the club, Mortimer did not back away from his belief it is time for change.
He also revealed how he fronted Hasler at a recent board meeting to express his concerns about the lack of passion displayed in the disappointing finals loss to Penrith."
--------------------------
Jeez, that's harsh on Des. 2 GF appearances and a 6th and 2 7ths in his 5 years ain't the worst coaching performance.

Re: Rugby League 2016
Not surprised that the NRL clubs (excluding the premiers) don't want to play in the expanded World Club Challenge vs the English Superleague premiers and runners-up.
