the loss of tour matches ahead of the first test could be a factor and could be redressed.

perhaps Bannie curators could be invited to prepare Oz pitches to be used for the tests here and vice versa for tests in Banindia.

The counter argument is that T20 doesn't prepare players to play long test innings.

SL were in Zim for a month before the SA tour.

Oui, they should have been acclimated, but have been rather meek.

The SA T20 squad looks weakish so they might come into their own in that format.

jamodis would not have been helpful practice, the two Tests should have been helpful...still i think the touring team should get 2 to 3 first class matches ahead of the first test

Considering the much slower nature of Zimbabwean pitches, it's not ideal preparation. But no amount of preparation would ready for Sri Lanka's horrible team of recent years.
