I hope Bird is able to grasp this opportunity, which may be his last.

At the same time I feel sorry for Sayers who in many previous periods would have had a crack before now.

Agree about Sayers. He is pretty much in the same boat as Bird in that he has had to contend with an adverse media pushing for their own favorites.
