Re: Trivia 2018
Stannies? Was Aloo one one of the batsmen?
btw, thanx Pete. Bertie, Wally Grout and Don Tallon were my three keeping heroes. As a boy I read some tips from Tallon that stuck with me.

Re: Trivia 2018
Okay, so here's a simple teaser. Three parts, just to give it legs of longer than a second.
1) How many runs did England actually make in that innings?
2) Give the date of that blue Monday. (for England supporters - some things never change)
3) What was the series result?

Well done WW, as ever!
In case anyone was wondering why Tom Webster - best sports cartoonist of all time, in my FWIW view - has his characters banging on & on in the first few frames about "600, 600, 600!": that had been the Aussies' first innings score. Which by Saturday evening (Melbourne time - the Poms back home had the whole of Saturday, and Sunday*, to revel in the wired-through news of Hobbs-Sutcliffe's mighty 283-0 at close of Day 3) seemed not so insurmountable at all, .. surely?
*It was a timeless enough Test: 1-8 January, rest day Sunday 4th. Hence the weekend-long revel in great things to come, for England fans.
Another false rosy dawn for England cricket.
Captured by Webster with great precision.

Re: Trivia 2018
That is some top order for the Poms. I wonder how many FC runs and tons they ended up with between them.

Re: Trivia 2018
The SAffies lead of 139 on 1st innings after still being behind at the fall of the 7th wicket is the 5th largest in Test history. Anyone want to hazard a guess at the 4 higher instances (can give hints - needless to say some large late order stands were involved)?

No, the missing one clearly had the 7th wicket falling prior to the 1st innings total of the opposition who batted first.
