It could be a humdinger. I just hope we get some decent pitches.

Re: How far can Jimmy go?
As far as I can remember, there have been two Ashes series in well over 30 years that have actually gone down to the decider in terms of the destiny of the urn (and 2009 was pretty dire, both deserved to lose!) Odds aren’t great!

20 years since his Test debut against Zimbabwe.
Also, in his List A debut, Derek Randall was on the opposing side. Crazy…

It’s crazy, this Anderson cycle thingy.

I remember scoffing quite contemptuously at Growler for suggesting that he'd be more of a ledge than Bobby Dazzler. My mouth was hushed so much that it was zipped up in a gimp mask with an orange ball that my overbite can hardly accommodate

A zip seal that could probably only be undone with a scented panda hammer ...
Welcome back Danny if only for the Ashes.

You weren't alone.
I can't remember who it was, but one poster predicted that Steve Harmison would go on to take 500 wickets, JA wouldn't reach 200.
We must enjoy watching him while we still can, because I don't think we'll see another one like him.

Re: How far can Jimmy go?
Well, we’ve written him off a few times before… but he surely won’t play both 2 and 3. And if the series is lost after the third, it may be just a question of whether he gets an Oval farewell. Odds against 700 and the Warne mark now, certainly in this series.
Incidentally, by playing at Edgbaston he officially took his Test career into a third decade, the 18th man to do so and the first wholly in the 21st century (Tendulkar and Chanderpaul the other two whose careers were partially in this century).

Re: How far can Jimmy go?
I'm not writing him off ... just wondering whether he'll miss the next match. Either he or Robinson will have to give way to Wood, you'd think? Or is Wood still not fit?

Re: How far can Jimmy go?
He was available for this one, though perhaps without much bowling under his belt. We need a change of pace, though depends on whether the pitch will suit - Tongue and Woakes are also in the squad.lardbucket wrote:I'm not writing him off ... just wondering whether he'll miss the next match. Maybe he was physically stuffed but I would have backed the champion with the second new ball.
Surely he plays at Lords.

Will the pitch stay green? Anderson threatened to retire if they keep rolling out the flatties.

Well, the all-seam attack confirmed in advance suggests it’s not going to be a dustbowl.
