If you believe in the "logic" of "mathematical modelling", how far would you agree to give your place on earth to a computer?

Still no bog roll in the local Aldi. The pensioners and others queued up this morning and cleared every last square in under 10 mins. Dolts.
Well one can't get them here either. People find ways of cheating on the one packet limit by having different family members queue separately and then meet in the car-park to display their wares.
Loo paper is manufactured in oz and if everyone just kept buying normally there would be no need to panic.
Went to many supermarkets yesterday and the loo rolls shelves denuded in all.
Pasta sauce all gone too. Ditto pasta, rice most types of biscuits, much of the canned food staples, eggs etc.
Aye Red.
People shit me to tears with their stoopidity.

My daughter texted me yesterday from Colchester Essex and said she saw a bloke wheeling a full trolley of tinned food out of a supermarket.

All museums and galleries being shut in Victoria.
I imagine the rest of Aus will follow.
I was due to go with a bunch of friends to a Picasso exhibition at the Canberra Art Gallery at the end of March but we cancelled last week.

Cancelled a tour of nursing homes for my mother (who is 93) who is interested in trialling respite care.
Have more or less moved there f/t to look after her as it seems the external personal care she relies on will become problematic.
Oddly enough her hold on life is held remarkably tightly
She is mainly concerned for her cat.

I visited my 90 year old mother-in-law yesterday and it could very well be my last visit for months as her retirement village is looking seriously at shutting their doors to visitors.

Re: Corona Virus
Because of all the time I spent in PNG last year, including bumming around in a vintage yacht for a week, plus the time on Bouganville this was to be the year of MrsQ's revenge.
Thus far corona has saved me ballet and the opera at the end of the month, with any luck a ballet in July and sundry others in between. By the end of the year she may have calmed down and forgotten the punishment altogether.
The winners and losers aren't just on the financial markets. Commiserations and prayers to anyone who may be more personally affected by this tragedy but.......

In Australia peopel panic-buy toilet paper. In America they panic-buy guns.
"Fearful of a coronavirus meltdown, Los Angelinos are rushing to gunstores to buy pistols, semi-automatic weapons and boxes of ammunition.
Some LA residents have been waiting in long queues, shoulder-to-shoulder, for up to five hours.
John Gore, 39, told the LA Times that people needed to be prepared for anything and to protect themselves.
"Politicians and anti-gun people have been telling us for the longest time that we don't need guns," he said.
"But right now, a lot of people are truly scared, and they can make that decision themselves."
Mr Gore's point of view was typical of many others lining up for guns"

Weirdly, the most fully stocked shelves in the supermarket just now were health food and women's products.

That is so that they can shoot the people who get in their way in the rush for loo roll.

Re: Corona Virus
If there is one lesson I am learning it is the value of leading a simpler life.
Today I am killing off useless lawn in the backyard. Am planning to plant crops of winter veg and herbs. One group of mates have slaughtered a few happy pigs and there is supply of smoked pork. Another mate has a small olive grove so there is supply of olive oil.
I have confit'd a few kgs of chicken maryland and a few duck legs and frozen the results for sharing. This is in addition to my normal fruit and excess tomato crop preservation efforts.
My only personal concerns are tobacco and whisky trees are difficult to grow in Melbourne.
The wife of a steppie is making kilos of kimchi

It’s no where near as contagious as originally thought.

Trump's $850 Billion stimulus package certainly pleased Wall St, with the Dow up 5.2%.
Can't see it holding though.

Sorry brain snap, I meant Robespierre.
Tom, not Tim.
There's nobody on this whole world wide web forum to match Horrie's sea-green incorruptibility.
I know you meant Tom and agree re horrie. When his revolution comes the retribution he seeketh will not go beyond his own principles unlike Roby who Tom came to despise, and Lenin and a cavalcade of third world misfits. No CPS for Horrie.

When are people going to start putting this down to an endless cycle of profit takers and bottom feeders on a repeat cycle? Sure the world economy is tanking but that can't be helping. Why don't they just suspend trading? (closet extreme socialist in me coming out).

I know you're not a betting man, MrK, but what's your tip for the bottom of this crash?

Very hard to say because it is all dependent upon how the world deals with CV. My hunch is that it is that that threat of CV is overblown but that only helps if world a) that is the case and b) world governments agree that it is the case.
There is a lot of firepower being thrown at keeping the world economy going so there is a bit of protection of sorts on the downside. But for instance, look at BA or Qantas. If they are left to their own devices they will go bankrupt. But their shareprices suggest that the market expects some sort of bail out from the government. While that is likely, it may not be in the form that saves the share price (for instance, nationalisation isn't our of the question). But no one knows so you wouldn't touch them with a 50 foot barge pole.
On the other hand, I think the likes of BHP and some of the more efficient oil producers have been oversold.

Should we do a CDL of sorts on the weekly CV death toll?
It's currently 11,365. I reckon at midnight Aust time next Friday it will be 38,152.
