Forecast looks good for Southampton.
Scattered clouds with temps between 19C and 22C for the 5 days.

First day looks a potential washout, but set to improve after that at least.

18 balls, a wicket, a run... and they’re off again.

I really don’t know why you choose to bat on a murky, stop-start day like this. Every chance of getting rolled for 60 and effectively losing the game there and then (yeah I know, we won two Tests last year after being bowled out for less than 100 first up...)

Re: England v West Indies, 1st Test, Ageas Bowl, 8-12 July, 2020
This is apparently the most inexperienced England top four since the fifth Test of the infamous 1989 Ashes. On that occasion, many of our old guard had just signed up for the second rebel Yarp tour, and our top four was Curtis (5th Test), Moxon (10th), Atherton (debut) and Robin Smith (7th). Well, two of them turned out OK, I suppose, which for that era was a good success rate...

Ah, the joys of Test cricket in high summer in England.
Drizzle and/or bad light, drowsy grey conditions, surviving batsmen in and out of the pavilion like the couple in an old Black Forest "weather house" ... with the added backdrop of a Ghost Train Brexit and the 21st century Plague. Misgoverned by the worst, most callous, incompetent and corrosive regime since the days of King John.
If only we had Tom Webster still with us, to sketch the scene.

Aye.
Another wicket or two would have been handy for the good guys. I wonder what the state of the ball is in given the damp outfield.
Wonder if Sturat will agree to carrying the drinks. Chinhead famously retired mid series rather than carrying out the drinks to Monty.

I was wondering that as well, especially after Sibley was bowled by a peach from Gabriel.

Along with the fact his shoulder was f*cked and he knew he couldn’t bowl at that level any more.horace wrote:skully wrote:Well, that's a disappointing start to the series.

I think we will rotate the seamers a lot this series, with three back to back Tests and then Pakistan to follow soon after. Jimmy’s nearly 38 and won’t play every game. Joffrey needs to be kept fresh and used as an impact bowler. Wood will be injured soon enough... and the pitches and weather conditions will vary. Not even the slightest hint that they’re done with Sturat just yet. And anyway, squad members don’t have to carry drinks at home, they’ll just find a handy Gary Pratt or Bilal Shafayat to do that...
