Well, he’s a Hampshire legend from his time in county cricket so they named a stand after him. Logical enough...Fred Nerk wrote:Dunno if this has been raised already, but....what's all this cobblers about a 'Shane Warne Stand'?

Plaudits for this funny comment, more than balances your earlier regurgitation of Chinhead's poor me line.
Widely rumoured at the time was that Chinhead retired on the spot after being told Monty would replace him. He had been bowling tosh, batted without gumption and whinged a lot.

Good straight bowling by Gabriel has England in a spot of bother at 3-50-odd.

Good session for the Windies. They bowled straight and got the results. Could've done with Roach catching Stokes but.
Stokes and Buttler are capable of adding 200 together.

Or not, as the case may be... and with all the bowling all-rounders omitted, we look like being well short of 200 now. And then the sun is set to come out allowing them to bat us out of the game.

“All-rounder” Jofra Archer now averages a Tufnell-esque 7.5 with the bat. Worst England number 8 since Caddick (in that infamous side where he was followed by three number 12s)?
Noddy running riot here. Who says you shouldn’t captain by the weather forecast? Stokes, seemingly...

Yet another stoic number 11 knock from Jimmy helped the locals reach two hundred.
Terrific effort from Holder and Gabriel.
Hope tomorrow is bright and sunny.

If the forcast is accurate its gonna be sunny for the next 3 days.
good news [especially for the windies]
in this team only stokes and buttler have more test runs than jimmy. and it showed.
on the commentary they said jimmy must have spent 2 days wanting to bowl in these
conditions. perhaps he should have told stokes/silverwood on wednesday morning..
however its not all bad news for england, at least none of our bowlers got injured
taking the knee at the begining.

Agree. By no means the most talented player but gives his utmost. I reckon he is an impressive person and leader as well.

Sage. Always like him and his bowling has gained a cutting edge (at least in the right conditions). More importantly, he seems to have instilled some pride back into the Baggy Maroon which was certainly missing for a while there.

Out in the sticks for the weekend. Will have to rely on a dodgy wifi connection to get any of the cricket. [sigh]

While I’m not sure his technique would have necessarily held up better than the others yesterday, you perhaps have to question the omission of Bairstow from an experience point of view in the absence of Root and with such a raw top four. And while Bess showed some resistance alongside the Burnley Lara, not having any of Moeen, Woakes and Curran to bolster the lower order also looks a questionable call.

Kraigggg makes the first 50 of the match. Not really happening for the England bowlers, though strangely the result predictor on Sky puts England 1% ahead on win probability...

Couple of wickets keeps England in it.
Ganjas need to knuckle down and eke out a reasonable 1st innings lead.

100 puts them well in charge. Keep it down to 50 and it’s anyone’s game.

Our Fletcher-esque pace strategy going well here. Sum total of zero wickets for Joffrey and Glassy...

Well, Wood at least cleaned up the Chris Martin-esque Shannon Gabriel. Justified his selection! Probably a winning lead for WI, but Monty and the Vicar survived a testing little session to take us to stumps none down.
Stokes joins the 4000 runs and 150 wickets club. A pretty exclusive one, featuring Sobers, Botham, Kallis, Kapil Dev and Vettori. And only Sobers got there quicker. By one match
