Lord Beefy of Brexit
Botham made a peer by Boris, so he swaps the commentary box at Lord’s for the House of Lords... unlike some of the honours granted by his predecessor as PM, it’s probably not BoJo’s passion for cricket that swung it!

I wonder if the peerage was due to Beefy's infamous dick pic? BoJo was might impressed.

'Good morning Chappelli'
'Good morning Lord Botham' (though gritted teeth)
Get them together, it'd be worth it.

Re: Lord Beefy of Brexit
One post only on this, after much demurring ...
It's seriously got to the point where I genuinely wish EITHER Australia had won that Headingley Test, OR the great Graham Dilley and Bob Willis had somehow done the job.
As a friend put it: if anyone was to be elevated to the Lords, it should have been Kath.
For the superhuman endurance and unmerited loyalty she's shown through decades.
To put it another way:
A (emotional lamentation): "Unfortunate the land that has no heroes!"
B (sober reflection): 'No. Unfortunate the land that has a NEED of heroes.'

Well, we can still enjoy someone’s sporting feats, just as we can enjoy someone’s music or acting etc. even if we know they’re a bit of a twat. It’s why they say “never meet your heroes”...
Not sure celebrity political views are really responsible for the state the country is in and its inevitable impending break-up, but I guess it all contributes.

It is pretty funny. In all fairness, the HoL probably contains bigger dills than Beefy.

And now appointed trade ambassador to Australia, would you believe… come on ScoMo, appoint Ian Chappell as his counterpart!

That'd be no fun, they'd still be in separate countries ... make him Botham's liaison officer.

Anyway, revenge for Headingley 1981 at long last - ...
But not just on the trivial cricket field - in diplomacy, the economy - and in respective gains and losses on either side of the world for real lives, real fortunes. Handed to Oz by Brexit and its crony pushers ....
You couldn't really have a better ambassador for any country ... all the credentials

If we’d still had Theresa May in charge then no doubt Boycott would have got the job… (Or maybe Strauss, who would probably have been a more competent negotiator, though may throw in the occasional c-word…)

Beefy is an upgrade on Tony Abbott.
What is it with the Poms? The Foreign Secretary's Greek Holiday was more important than the Afghan disaster. Oh well much of the joint was desert anyway and the Brits are better at ruling the waves as the old tune goes.
Mind you Oz is little better, if at all.

Botham’s famous quote on Australia: “Aussies are big and empty, just like their country.”
Mind you, he also said "Pakistan is the kind of place to send your mother-in-law for a month, all expenses-paid." Expect that to be the next country he’s appointed to seal a trade deal with, then.

He even stuffed up that line - it should be 'AUSTRALIA is big and empty, just like its inhabitants.'

Paul Gascoigne is apparently after the Norway job… apparently he has a two-word message for them if they don’t give us unlimited access to their fishing waters.

Where's Jim Davidson going to be trade ambassador for? Quite a wide choice across Africa and Asia.
