Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Just got back from seeing it. Decent film but f*cking depressing. The world is f*cked, probably going to be another financial collapse, poor people die (and did die during the financial collapse) rich people get bail outs and bonuses. Just feel quite sad about the injustice of it all really.Bradman wrote:
I'm interested in seeing the "Big Short" but was waiting for something besides the mixed reviews as a recommendation.
Of course none of it affected me personally (yet) though so I guess it would feel a bit patronising to be too upset about it.

I'm hoping that watching Coogan and Bryden in advance might help in this regard.

Heard nothing but rave reviews about Room. Apparently it's life-affirming and not depressing, despite the subject.

Saw the previews and will be interested to watch as I read the novel when it was published some years ago.

We watched Ant Man ... surprisingly good, considering the idea is ridiculous.

Saw Spotlight a couple of days ago. Decent movie about the Boston Globe's expose on Catholic Church in 2002. Amazing how the religious machinery of a whole city can protect the grub priests.
And agree that Hail Caesar! might be worth a look on release.

Other movies seen recently:
The Revenant - picturesque but oh, my numb arse. The 3 hour story could've been told in 2.
Steve Jobs - interesting if headache inducing - Jobs was clearly an infuriating arsehole to work for.
Bridge of Spies - quality.
The Big Short - great acting from Christian Bale and Steve Carell. Agree with vilks - very depressing, espesh the notion that the banks haven't learnt from 2007.

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Had a day to fill before my annual leave ends so i went to see The 5th Wave. Pretty standard YA stuff (young adult) in the same mold as Maze Runner & Hunger Games. Worth a look but i'd wait for the DVD.
Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Dirty Grandpa was funny for the first hour then petered out towards the inevitable happy ending. De Niro was hilarious as the apparently* super-horny recently widowed grandfather of co-star Zac Efron

Plse don't tell me it is a doco on Nigel and his skyping attempts with Nigella Lawson, his perennial problems with the help and his fantasies about Ian Smith

I find it hard to buy Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Still, I'll give it a watch. Shirley it can't be as bad as the last Cavill/Superman movie?

I thought the last Superman movie was good for the first hour, then it descended into CGI silliness.

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Watched a DVD of Zoolander 2 recently. What a disappointment after the original. Rubbish plot, rubbish acting, very few (if any) laughs. A complete waste of two hours of my life. (and doesn't Sting look old)
Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Warcraft: No where near as bad as the critics have made out, it's weird how much it has been bashed from all quarters when films like The Hobbit mostly got a free pass. Warcraft is better than every Hobbit film (but not as good as the LOTR films) and stands up as a solid action fantasy flick if that's your thing, I think the problem seems to be that the people sent to review it weren't fans of fantasy and scoff at things like the names of the characters (genuine critcisms) and a couple of ludicrous reviews have compared it with Battlefield Earth which is just absurd.
It's not going to win any awards, nor does it deserve to, but there's nothing offensively bad about the film, I'd rate it a 7/10 and move it up to an 8 or a 9 if you are a fan of the games or the genre. The bad reviews are baffling, hopefully it doesn't destroy it's box office hopes in America, it seems to be doing alright elsewhere and I'd like to see a sequel or two.

Finally got around to watching this. Totally bewildering plot & storyline with a lot of 'liberties' being taken with the history & genre of both characters. Not suprised the reviews were crap.
