Coach
Aus might be in line for a new coach...
Not happy, Jan
"Cricket Australia has flatly rejected a meeting with Justin Langer turned sour when talks opened over the coach’s future in the role. In an extraordinary move, CA broke its long-held position of refusing to comment on discussions with Langer as they consider whether to extend his tenure.
Langer is off-contract in June and met with CA’s chief executive Nick Hockley and high performance manager Ben Oliver last Friday. Some media reported the meeting became heated when CA suggested to Langer he may have to reapply for his position.
“While we do not comment on confidential conversations, we felt on this occasion it was important to correct the record,” CA said in a statement on Tuesday. “We reject outright the assertion that the meeting was fiery or heated and that Justin was asked to reapply for his job.
...
Langer wants to continue as coach after overseeing a 4-0 Ashes win, preceded by Australia’s maiden Twenty20 World Cup title. But his position beyond June remains in doubt, amid reported ongoing unrest among Australia’s players about his coaching style.
...
The West Australian was appointed coach on a four-year deal after Australia’s infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in March 2018, replacing Darren Lehmann who quit at the end of that infamous Test series.
Lehmann recently said Langer should walk from the job, believing four years was long enough for any coach to hold the job. But a host of Langer’s former teammates including Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, have called for CA to reappoint Langer, given Australia’s recent successes."
--------------------------------------------------------
Smoke...fire?? There's been some noise from this meeting that Langer was indeed asked to reapply for his job. Allegedly he told Hockley and co. to stick it up their arse.
NLWL's record should see him given a renewed contract, but lingering doubts about his relationship with the players still seems to be a sticking point.

Re: Coach
Langer failed to win a Test series abroad and lost to home series v the Bannies.
Having a smart NSP led by Bailey has helped beyond better selections according to the little bits of Vic Premier Crofts Goss I have picked up. No doubt having McDonald a calm tactician with the good red ball coaching record Langer never had at a domestic level has helped as well.
I have no doubt Langer is orchestrating support through old mates.
The ABC Radio reported CA is formally seeking the views of 2nd and Fink. Both are well placed to give a considered view.

evil dubberness
claimed he was pushing for Bayliss
I think Langer roasted him when Conn was CA media manager ...and Conn is sniping in revenge
CA is handling the situation badly

this could have been written by Conn
exaggerates failure and downplays successes
it dresses opinion up as fact and distorts everything towards a preformed conclusion

His Test record is poor. Not winning an overseas tour and the two losses here to the Bannies. Of course he should go on that alone.
The support for Marsh beggars belief.
When interviewed he does not seem all that bright.

Re: Coach
On the Nooz tonight, Hockley was on saying the CA Board met for 8 hours today on the matter (FFS) and agreed to enter into confidential discussions with NLWL. The outcome of these discussions would be released ASAP.
Jesus, what a shithouse handling of this whole affair.

Re: Coach
No surprise to anyone CA has been inept in their handling of this.
FWIW it seems Aus appears to be on the upswing after the Bannies disaster.
Three Weeks until a tour to the Wackies for the first time in two decades, imo JL should at least lead the team until then.

The 8 hours also included working out the Shield and ODD seasons and the 'stani tour

should have worked harder. where's the warm-up game?
they could have just scrapped the ODD portion (in favour of more Shield games) and no-one would have noticed or cared.

Re: Coach
I wonder if he was offered a reduced role eg coaching the white ball game and giving the Test side to someone else.
The benchmark has to be winning Test series overseas. Fair enough the First Bannies series loss but the second was poor.

My pick would be Dizzy.
Meanwhile, it transpires that CA offered JL a 6 month extension with a guaranteed fark off at the end of it.
Little wonder he resigned. As Glenn Mitchell said on Twitter (thanks to Zat on another medium), potentially he could've won the Wackie series and successfully defended the T20 WC and got sacked as a thank you.
