World T20 2022
As it’s an official Gilly of sorts, thought it should have its own thread as opposed to just within the generic JAMODI one.
England have axed Jason Roy, his desperate form across all competitions this year made that inevitable. Wood and Woakes set to return from injury, and Stokes is in despite not playing a T20I for going on 18 months.

Re: World T20 2022
Bairstow injury could offer Roy a reprieve, or an SOS to Hales who apparently was begging for a recall…

A bit left-field I know, but there's this lad Joe Root at Yorkshire, I hear he might be a bit handy. He could offer another bowling option as well.

Yeah, as far as I’m aware he hasn’t retired from T20. Not sure you’d have him and Malan in the same top three though.
Sounds like Duckett, Jacks, Cox and Roy are the main candidates to replace Bairstow. Banton’s lost his way this year and Hales’ plea seemingly fell on deaf ears.

Malan has got wheels once he has got his eye in and batting in the powerplay is to Root' s advantage - he can play properly but still score quickly.
Stokes could do the job too.

Re: World T20 2022
Yeah, did think of the idea of Stokes opening.
Root and Malan aren’t slow scorers by anyone’s definition, but neither are really prolific six-hitters by today’s standards and you feel there’s probably only room for one player like that in a T20 side.

Throw Moeen into the mix and there are options at the top of the order.

Re: World T20 2022
KP still pleading on Roy’s behalf… he’d probably nominate him for Prime Minister as well. I suppose he might not be any worse than the other current candidates for that role, but that’s another debate…

Re: World T20 2022
The trouble is that T20 and the 16.4 don't give batsmen a chance to play themselves back into form. Surrey would be doing Roy and England a favour if they played him in their remaining championship matches.

Bumrah ruled out for India, while WI drop Shitmon for missing a flight he had already requested to reschedule.

Re: World T20 2022
Tim David came off v WIs earlier this week, pounding a string of 6s. Does he get squeezed into the starting side?
I'd have him for Puddle or Groinis, but we probably need their bowling.

He should be ahead of Stonis, in my XI at least.

Re: World T20 2022
Wow, thanks for the lightning response, Cheese. Nothing to do on a Saturday??
There's quite a lot of warm up games being played prior to the Gilly, including one tomoz night, Aus v Eng in Perth.
Aus is resting it's whole bowling line up, so expect Buttler and friends to go berserk.

England smoked 208 in the current warm up game.
Aus 3-123 with 87 needed of 8 overs. Nah!!

Re: World T20 2022
A strangely stuttering finish to both innings in a high-scoring game. Wade should have been out obstructing the field for his outstretched arm block on Wood trying to take a catch, but not sure there was even an appeal.
Only England’s second ever JAMITT win against Australia on Aussie soil, bizarrely.

Re: World T20 2022
I thought wood did appeal. and then jos talked to the umpires. I think Morgan would have
appealed immediatly so I'm not sure what Jos 'we dont want to upset anyone' Buttler is on
about. I spose the rest of the oz bowlers are on holiday, but their standins did a pretty
easonable job after Hales and Jos got out.

Pretty dodgy effort by Weed.
Shirley the finger would've gone up had there been an appeal??

Re: World T20 2022
Apparently Buttler went for the more diplomatic approach given it was the start of a tour and he didn’t want to provoke ill-feeling at this stage.

An alternative approach I guess would have been to keep quiet and then Mankad him at the first opportunity

Re: World T20 2022
Looks like Hales has got the nod over Salt to open. Bit of a concern over our bowling when Warner and Stonus were together, the spin beardies got pulverised. Think
thats going to be a weakness against the big boys.

AUs currently 4-100, chasing 179, needing 11 an over.
