Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Tassie takes the first match points for the season. Yay.
Meanwhile Jack Edwards opens his brown paper bag, and Hayden Kerr also scores highly v QLD, taking NSW to a strong position in that match. In the other game, Bancroft, last season’s top run scorer, cruises past 100 in his first innings for the summer. His file may already have been marked - hard to understand why else he would have been overlooked for the Ashes tour earlier this year. All he can do is keep scoring runs and hope for a change of heart at the selection table ,,,

El phurto. Edwards has never had the talent necessary.
Likewise Bancroft.

Blues tail wagged magnificently to take the Spivs from 6-195 to 446.
Now Chris Tremain has the Banjos under the pump at 4-89.

Jack Fraser-McGurk smashed the fastest ever List A ton today, in just 29 balls (and fastest in Aus by 22 balls!!).
He opened for SA as they chased Tas's imposing 9-435. SA were going well at 3-339 in the 38th but have faltered to be 6-373 off 43.

our batting is not solid enough to be able to accommodate Sutherland at 6.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
I note Lance Morris sorted Jewell out with his first ball on return to FC cricket.
Jordan Silk was left on 99* at the end of the first day; I hope he can convert today. He's improved in the last two years; think the leadership role has helped him be more consistent.

Ugh, you know your team is in for a tough season when they struggle v the perennially bad Barrels.
NSW in trouble at the hands of ex-Spiv (born in the Gong) Nathan McAndrew, who has 4.
Meanwhile, Jordan Silk has gone onto 164* for the Tozzies, his highest FC score.

we are facing 2 innings defeats in as many games, so we're much worse!

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Some very depressing scorecards when examined for signs of upcoming batting - and especially opening batting - talent. Warner may yet get the last two Tests he wants (and does not deserve) for the mere fact that all challengers are falling away.
Marcus Harris has done nothing this year, Hunt and Ward have gone backwards, Hughes has flopped on this match when another big score might have encouraged the selectors, “dark horse” Jewell started the year superbly but has failed today, only Bancroft and Renshaw of the recognised contenders have advanced their claims. Even Khawaja, the other incumbent opener, is struggling. Contenders for middle order spots are thin on the ground, too. It may be ‘horses for courses’ at the WACA … Bancroft or Whiteman, although as I think I’ve said before, Whiteman would have played before if he was seen by the selectors as a realistic chance.
And there’s a bloke with a Test batting average of 144 who has completely lost his way.
All in all it’s a depressing prospect for Aus supporters, but should excite the Pakistanis and Caribbean men.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
I was thinking the same thing this morning, Mrbucket.
There are certainly very few young guns on the horizon.
How depressing in that Bancroft is a walk up start to replace Warner? Emblematic of the lack of talent coming through.

Vix getting the result expected with the selections made and structure adopted.
CA has gone mad. Boland was rested for the current game.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Bancroft and Whiteman made it almost halfway to the Tas score before they were separated …
This will end as a draw. If Whiteman makes 200 plus that could stimulate the selectors, especially with the first Test being played in Perth.
