Well, well...BCCI in 'flexing it's money muscle' shock..
Indian cricket board will ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) to include the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in the international calendar even after the world governing body had decided against doing so till the end of the current Future Tours Programme (FTP), a report has claimed.
The ICC, on Wednesday, had decided in its Chief Executives Meeting in Kuala Lumpur against tinkering with the current FTP - which outlines fixtures for all Test playing nations until 2012.
A report in the Sydney Morning Herald said that a group of major cricketing nations from the subcontinent, led by BCCI, will ask the ICC to create an annual window for the Twenty20 tournament, and they will receive support from Cricket Australia.
The BCCI will also ask England's cricket board to rework its county cricket calendar so its players can participate, the report said.
The BCCI had earlier said that it would not interfere with the FTP, but the report claimed that the overwhelming response in Wednesday's player auction has led to a change in mind and the board would now push for the inclusion of IPL in the international calendar.
Moreover, franchise backers, who have spent huge sums on international talent, expect the players to be made available.
IPL co-founder and former BCCI chief Inderjit Singh Bindra was quoted as saying by the newspaper that the world body would have no choice but to comply if most of its members request a gap for the inclusion of IPL in the FTP.
"The ICC works for the member countries and if the majority of members are appealing for a gap for the IPL, then the ICC must go by that," Bindra said.

Just a matter of time before all the tests and JAMODIs in the FTP is replaced by the mighty T20s.
Fark you BCCI. Fark you ICC.
The beginning of the end of cricket surely...

Unfortunately BCCI refuses to do that and insists on farking Indian Cricket first soon to be followed by World Cricket. They simply refuse to see the benefits of masturbation.....

The T 20 revolution is inevitable whether it is in the form of IPL or ICL or whatever. The financial strength of India's Corporate World is equally inevitable. I am no fan of BCCI but to blame them for moving forward with the times and show some leadership even if it were to thwart ICL does not make sense.
Indian Cricket is fast becoming like the US foreign policy. Somebody somewhere is always unhappy about it and wanting to take pot shots at.

I seriously don't understand all this hostility. ICC adapting the FTP can only be a good thing and what they'd be expected to do, since they bloody approved of the tournament. And England doing the same would actually be in their interests because otherwise they'd be restricting their players financially big-time.

I don't care about the 20:20 IPL league thing as of now, but agree with what you've said. It's the coming thing.

How could we, really?
We've a long 50 over competition, a long 40 over competition, a T20 tournament and a large amount of FC games. We have to start in April just to fit it in. We're just not prone to long enough summers.

Nah, there would (should) be adjustments on both sides, maybe the IPL will start half a month early, and the county season 10-15 days late, and you should have a compromise acceptable to all.
The BCCI wouldn't be able to resist Pietersen and Flintoff for long, so they'll be agreeable as well.

The counties still effctively run the game in the UK - they will not, repeat will not, make any adjustment to the county game, which might compromise their financial viability.

The counties run the game in the UK, the players run the counties. I don't think they'll jeopardise and inhibit the players like that. However, if they do, I can't help but feel that would be bullheadedness (obviously assuming IPL is a success).

Re: Well, well...BCCI in 'flexing it's money muscle' shock..
I don't see how the County cricket changes it's calender just to cater to BCCI's to make more money. if County players want to play IPL, it may be case of them having to forgo their County commitments and choosing IPL over it. It is not possible for all test playing nations to 'adjust' both their international and national seasons just to avail a handful of players so they can play IPL in India. It is a ridiculous notion bordering on the winds of crony capitalism. People in Aus, SA and Eng still place a good enough importance to their domestic season [Thank God] unlike money bags BCCI. So why should they adjust to accomodate a bunch of showpony showmoney dictators?
If the players want to play IPL so badly, let them leave their counties in which case. Lots of Pak bowlers in the past chose to play County cricket instead of doing national duty. Let the players choose their priority. Why should IPL be any different?
