Maybe the Australian decline will be greater in ODI's than in Tests.

It seems a fair bet that one or other of the aging legspinners will stop the gap adequately in Tests for another couple of years. Similarly the quick bowlers should also last that long, Johnson rather longer if he graduates as a Test player.

Gilchrist will not be missed on his diminished form of recent years . The major danger seems to be the opening batting. Hayden might never conquer the green English pitches which have formerly cut him down to size, assuming he's still there in 2009 as a spring chicken of 37 years. Jacques does not convince me. Nor does Rogers.

In ODI's there may be a need for some bits and pieces players like Hopes, but more talented with the bat. Hopes bowled very effectively but then lost Australia critical momentum last night with the bat. Someone like Cameron White would have been potentially valuable asa swift scorer with some semblance of technique and perhaps an ability to bowl a few overs. It's also conceivable that a dual captaincy might be re-visited. Ponting makes too many tactical errors in ODI's and it would preserve his batting for the major sphere.

Nice post peter.

I suspect that if Ponting were tossed from the JAMODI team that his Test form would also suffer. The mental midget's self esteem would be beyond rescusitation.

Although it would save him the problem of having to be able to count to 10

snigger.

As you may have gathered I have a real problem with Ponting as captain. The scarier problem is that there is no clear better candidate.

Aye, it seems unfathomable that there are still idiots out there who think he is better than SRW.

Agreed that there is no better candidate in the current line up.

Maybe we just need to wait for Haddin to cement his spot naughty

I'd have given the captaincy to Gilly after Waugh retired.

what we do not need is another overrated spiv ....haddit, fleas , clarke

dont confuse ponting's captaincy skills with his current poor form...

Ksnr had innumerable bouts of poor form but was kept by the brearley principle...he was covered by having a more capable team at his disposal...he also hid at 6 in the batting order ...

punter's major captaincy error last night was bowling Bung and not Hopes...but hey this decision was straight out of the OZ/dubber captaincy handbook...

we do not need more of the same

Yo horrie.

On another note, the series is over and we can all go back to making fun of the English team.

The way he sooked about him being valued at lower price in IPL, fat chance of this happening,

Over the next days Ponting would do well to tear up his contract with the Indian Premier League and book some time at his favourite Sydney golf club. The last thing Ponting needs is more cricket.

The contract fee of $400,000 he would have to surrender would be worth it for the peace of mind he cannot get at the moment.

crash is a dill...it was a jamodi series...we even got beaten by the poms last year and still won the world cup...

india has still to ever win a test series iin this country and prolly need to ditch dravid, ganguly, yuvi, bhaji and kumble to take the next step forward in tests (esp those against non minnows outside the subby con)

that said your young players were very good esp the young leggie who is the future of spin bowling in India...donut needs to be made captain of your test team as well

T20 has as little resemblance to cricket as golf does so he may as well go have a slog and collect the filthy lucre
